IMO, this was the most touching and well-done episode of the whole season. The way they drew connections from deja to another characters was so moving. |
i cried. what else is new? because though its just a show you know there are so many kids out there like this and it breaks my heart. they didn't ask to be here and have no say in the circumstances which they'll be born into. and shauna seeing her as a child FINALLY. my god, i was done! |
I must have a cold, dead heart. I am a little bored with this show. |
I didn't like the episode at all! And I didn't think the people who Shauna and Deja were in the past (according to this most recent episode) matched what we saw of them when we met them. They both would have behaved more reasonably. You could tell the idea of Shauna being a victim of the gun situation was reconstructed after the fact. And Deja had such a sweet soul. Her being so rude at first? getting so mad at Beth for sharing with Randall that she cuts off her hair? It doesn't add up. |
I liked the episode but agree with this. Remember when we first met Deja and that scene where she recoiled at whatshisface expecting him to hit her? I didn't see much from her backstory to cause her to have that type of reaction - even the scene with the mom's boyfriend (which, I did miss some of. What happened? Was he hitting on her?) |
Did you miss the scenes where the foster father hit the her friend, the other foster child? And, they implied that Deja was in many different foster homes since then so possible/likely she was hit herself or witnessed more physical abuse. |
I found a few scenes from the most recent episode touching, but overall I was a little bored with it. I wanted to see more of the rest of the Pearson clan and instead, it was 99% about Deja and her mom. The other story lines following Jack's death weren't advanced at all. |
That's right! I forgot about that scene. But I still agree with what the one poster wrote. |
I disagree about Deja and Shauna not being consistent from the prior episodes. Shauna told Randall in prison that the gun wasn't hers. It being her boyfriend's makes so much sense with what we saw about her backstory. She was a teenager when Deja was born, wanted love and fun and freedom but also loved Deja and wanted to live up to her expectations. Like everyone in the show, she isn't all one thing or the other. That's what made in heartbreaking when she left at the end. |
I think it was quite consistent. If Deja weren't such a sensitive soul, she wouldn't have needed those tough defenses when she first arrived at Randall and Beth's. I've worked with a lot of teens with difficult lives. This makes total sense to me. |
Favorite moments from the Vegas episode:
-Kevin telling off Ron Howard, or rather, standing up for himself. And then he’s rewarded with good news. -learning more that Toby (and Kate too) doesn’t have many friends. He has finally grown a bit on me. And it shows why Kate and Toby get along. I mean they met at a support group, where you generally come alone to MEET friends. -side note: I wanted to meet more of kate’s friends that came -BETH Favorite moments from deja episode: -her foster-sister of sorts -someone mentioned above “they expect schools to fix this.” And I agree that’s what happens. But also, it seems like deja had a positive afterschool activity, was into her education, and despite tose things, gosh, the *interruption* is what messes her up. Even looking forward to the school dance got ruined when they got re-homer again. Schools can’t do it all, and no one thinks they can, but especially if she keeps getting her life interrupted |
So sorry for bad typos. Trying to type quickly in between baby/toddler stuff ![]() |
I was ok with the deja story, and I usually like the mixed up storyline. But I found this episode hard to watch with all the flipping around. I almost stopped watching. It was like they had a 20 minute story and filled it in with random clips. And they could have done so much more with Deja’s story. |
Yeah, like the writers were on vacation~ |
There was even a snippet of boy Jack and his brother in one of the montages. |
