Is this some kind of joke?

NO ONE believes the Ivies or most of the T50 are “institutions of free thought” anymore.

I know plenty of trumpers with kids in college right now. None of them want trump wasting our time and energy with this attack on Harvard and other universities. They hate migrants. They hate immigrants. They're not too fond of dark-skinned people. But they are not interested in doing battle with Harvard University and higher education . Not at all. I don't think they get why he focuses on this of all things.

This is just useless destruction. Harvard in higher education is wounded but come out the other side and go on long after Trump is gone.

Harvard must honestly and deeply embrace diversity; meaning: diversity of political opinion.

The overwhelming majority of Harvard professors and administrators are firmly on the left, with many on the far-left. They have also migrated toward antisemitism or acceptance of antisemitism at Harvard.

Acceptance of diversity of political opinion is Harvard’s only path forward.

The government cannot and must not tell Harvard which professors to hire or what those professors can teach.

When are the Harvard elites going to go to China to get an education. I mean if they like what China's research is doing so much, maybe they should go there.

Highly educated people are overwhelmingly liberal.

Are you suggesting Harvard needs to adopt DEI to balance things out with unqualified conservatives?

Unfortunately the optics of wealthy universities with huge endowments getting Federal funding for anything other than student aid looks bad to working and middle class Americans.

Federal funding produces this: https://www.nature.com/nature-index/institution-outputs/generate/all/global/all

With Harvard knee-capped, China rules.

Great we don't have to fund the research or teach the foreigners English in our classes. Let the businesses go and get their students and sponsor a green card directly then do a genuine PERM or LCA search to prove they can't find it here. Instead of bringing them here then having us train them let them do an internship or three. Oh, but now they can't find the talent. Meanwhile all of our classmates and coworkers are annoying even for the least racist of us.

BTW have you actually ever read any of those Chinese journal articles? I was reviewing one. I went and did a Google search to see if they had all of the references. The authors had already published nearly the exact same paper. Like the abstract and the first two pages were exactly the same. Same authors in a different order.

IMO that is the real problem with the Chinese education system. It’s portfolio based instead of standardized testing based, so they can just use the same publications and portfolios over and over again. That's what I thought when I heard the Ivies were trying to get away from standardized testing.

What are you talking about??? China is known for its intense testing culture.

Middle of the pack

True geniuses are conservative like Musk. Academics and liberals are rule followers and conformists always being told what to do and completing their assignments

A) Musk isn’t a genius. Don’t understand why folks keep perpetuating this myth.
B) Academic clearly can’t be the rule followed as they are the ones that publish the facts folks don’t want to talk about.
C) Conservatives seem to be the people most concerned with people following rules and conforming. If not they would be Progressives, you know the people who appreciate progress and change to keep up with society changing.

Marxists and socialists are all about volumes of rules. Very unwise and no grasp of 4d consequences

Today's news says Trump totld the federal government to cut all ties with Harvard, and that those remaining contracts amount to about $100 million.

What's fascinating about that is that it shows that Trump's quiver is empty. The researcher contracts are substantial. Threatening foreign students is a big deal. Cutting $100 million in contracts? Well, that matters, but not all that much.

What will Trump do on Thursday or Friday when he needs to show again what a big, strong boy he is but he has nothing left to act on?

Not really there was an article a few years ago. Many of the "talented" kids were just well-connected communists. They would steal other kids' portfolios. Similar to how rich kids take advantage of Harvard.

Musk is such a genius he destroyed his own car company and canceled contracts using an AI word search. Thanks but no thanks genius.

Musk isn’t anything. He’s an opportunistic B. He’s been donating to Trump bc Trump allowed him to secure his government welfare.

What sort of nonsense are you spewing?!

1/4 of Harvard professors are Jewish. The president of Harvard is Jewish. Do you think they accept antisemitism?

What do you know about the political preferences for Harvard professors? Have you polled them? Here's one factoid: The (many) professors at Harvard Business School are not mostly left, much less far-left. The university is a big institution that covers lots of disciplines and lots of types of people.

Stop makiing gradiose, screw assertions when you have no idea what you are talking about.

Another rough week at the office for Harvard.

One wonders: Surely, if Harvard loses full freight pay international students, wouldn’t privileged full freight pay kids here who wouldn’t have otherwise been accepted, gleefully try to claim those seats?

Less gleefully than if the Harvard were a global institution allowed to pursue its teaching and research as its scholars see fit, rather than one that were to kowtow to Trump's anti-intellectual rage of the day.
