Cringe.

It’s even cringier because Sussex isn’t even their last name. Their last name is “Mountbatten-Windsor.”

Is it also cringe when they call the William and Kate family “Cambridge” or “Wales?”

The cringe factor is the demand to be called Sussex.

Agree. If she hates being a royal so much, she should stop using her Duchess title and go back to the name Markle, which made her semi famous. You can't have your cake and eat it, too.

Didn't she say she wanted to have the last name as her children? Is that so bad?

She said it in a baby voice and it was very off- putting and strange. If people want to change their name, fine. I personally didn't but it's a normal thing to do. What's not normal is giving your supposed friend (or email penpal, whatever) a dressing down for calling you by your maiden name. So weird!

Not her fault since this was planned and filmed last year, but it’s really hard for me to enjoy watching a wealthy person craft for kicks wearing a $30,000 watch in a cottage at her $10 million home. I like her and I wish her well, but I don’t think I’ll keep watching.

+1

Yup. It's really tone deaf. They should pull the show. Terrible timing.

And apparently it is not her legal name. She just wanted that moment so she could do the "Duchess of Sussex" thing.

That was so 1950s housewife!
She's a piece of work. I liked her on Suits, but she's really gone downhill. Her show is just sad and joyless.

Yep.. The ratings are credited to hate-watching.

Why do any of you hate watch something? Did you watch the state of the union too? If you find something horrible, why continue?
I liked the ideas and presentation and found it to be a comfort watch so I kept watching and thought it got better as it went on. If I hated her or any of it, I'd have stopped and watched something I liked. I just don't have bandwidth for hate watching shows. What are some examples of other shows you hate watch?

She’s obviously not a real chef/cook. Her clothes are pretty but totally unpractical for a real cook. Her speech sounds like she’s trying to follow the inflections and intonations of Martha. The substantive banter sounds phony and forced. And it is so tone deaf in today’s environment and especially given MM’s previous claims about caring about social justice issues, etc. Also how do you try to present yourself as a caring, warm hostess after you’ve bashed and cut yourself off from both sides of you and your husband’s families???

She needs to find something else. This is really really bad.

Agree.
I could not get past the white, designer clothing, no apron, and the $26k Cartier Tank watch she wore while cutting veggies and boiling water. And her clothes never got a drop of water on them, much less pasta sauce, red wine, etc. etc. And the makeup she was wearing was smeared on with a spatula. Who cooks looking like that? And all the labels removed from the bottles was so fake and precious. Who is her show for? Is it just an ad for the preserves and lifestyle crap she's going to sell? Are the recipes published anywhere? Oh, her brilliant tip: use a cookie cutter to cut up sandwiches for your kids! Cute! Who eats the crusts? The dog? The trash? All I learned from the few painful minutes I spent watching her show is how out of touch MM is with the real world. Also, she looks anorexic! Her arms are painfully thin. Her MIL had bulimia. Very sad if Meg has the same disease.

I think the amount of money they are making is a big part of the disdain for me. If she was just doing this on her own in her kitchen or building her own business - then whatever. But to be handed tens of millions to basically be a Pinterest board is unfortunate.

I worked for Meghan and obviously can’t say anything. I just want to thank everyone for their posts. I’m so happy people are finally seeing her for who she truly is. Take that as you wish.

That doesn’t mean much this early. It’s being served up to viewers so of course it’s going to be watched right now.

So, to be clear, not only is it in the Top 10, it was already renewed for a second season, and you think that "doesn't mean much." Okay.

Lol it’s no longer in the top 10 and Netflix ALREADY filmed season 2. It wasn’t renewed. It was part of the original plan.

She has zero background in either field and likely didn’t host or cook beyond basics prior to marrying Harry. Even since then, she mostly hires out and does very little of it herself. So I just don’t get why this got made into a show.

Again, this was basically the concept behind the Tig, a website she ran for three years prior to marrying Harry. She is an amateur but, like Gwyneth, she had good taste and was known in her friend circles for being good at this kind of thing.

I actually have no idea if she "mostly hires out" now or not. When they show her cooking on the show, she looks to me like someone who cooks at home. Also when her actual friends appear on the show, you can tell that they appreciate this aspect of her personality, that she's hosted them many times and they appreciate the extra mile she goes as a hostess. So to me it seems like this is a genuine interest of hers, that she has some skill and background in it, and she is sharing real tips and tricks from things she has done before.

Is it much more impressive than what your best hostess girlfriend might do at her house or put up on her Pinterest? No. I know women who do stuff like this and they are as skilled as Meghan is. But she's famous and they aren't, she has a Netflix deal and they don't. It's the same with Goop -- is she the only person who could possibly have created that website? No, there are lots of women with similar tastes and interests who could have produces something similar. But she's famous and rich so she had a built in audience and other women don't.

Some of you are watching this show like you are totally unfamiliar with the concept of an already-famous person parlaying their fame into a lifestyle brand. It's not that uncommon! You've seen this before.

She's not famous though. She was not famous pre-Harry and she was only a UK royal for a tiny amount of time.

Not before marrying Harry. Most didn't know who she was, just some white actress.

You thought she was white? Interesting. I’d say she looks visibly non-white or at least not fully white. Not to be racist. Just she objectively is not 100% white.

Everyone i know, including some black women, thought she was white at first.

That’s…really weird that you were going up to random Black women you know to ask what race they thought Meghan Markle was.

She was not considered black in Hwood nor did she identify as black She probably would’ve been more famous had she leaned into the black side earlier . Black media loves biracials. I am going to take a guess and assume she didn’t get along with most bw. I could see Oprahs head snap into two during the interview. It just seems like she complains about the smallest things like a surname or her kids titles or not getting to wear the Dress she wanted. Claiming the royals were racist did not endear her to the black audience like she expected. She received much backlash for her complaints and Oprah immediately distanced herself from the interview. Barack and Michelle O had a really good relationship with the Queen/BRF and Meghan and Michelle tellingly do not seem to really socialize despite both living in LA and having some sort of deals with Netflix.

The bolded is flatly untrue — her character on Suits was identifiably black and the character’s dad played by a well-known black actor.

Michelle Obama is not friends with every black celeb in LA, omg.

"Black media loves biracials" like?? Who says this 😭 They're acting as if she looks like Troian Bellisario who does look 100% white. Meghan looks mutiracial and has talked about being biracial before she ever met Harry. Being racially ambiguous is not white passing guys.

lol wtf? I mean this is veering painfully close to “don’t all Black people know each other?”

I’m taking it as not true lol. Other than the obvious - that anyone could come on here and say anything and that if you actually had complaints you’d likely go to the press anonymously as opposed to posting on an obscure message board for a city where Meghan has never lived - there have been dozens and dozens of people who worked for her in Hollywood who vouch for her. The only complaints about workplace bullying were from the BRF.
