| My son wants to go out to eat with friends for his bday. The restaurant he picked is fine except there are a few meals on the menu that are expensive. I want to set a max dollar limit per person. I don’t want anyone ordering the $40 fish of the day when there are several options under $25. |
| I'd give him a gift certificate to treat his friends. Anything over that he pays or friends will probably offer funds. Make sure he knows to tip on full amount. |
+1 perfect solution. |
How old is your son? I could see this working for 16+, maybe. A gift card is a good idea to set parameters on the cost, but you can't expect the guests to pay. And only you know if your son would actually be able to cover any overages. If it's a budget issue, you're probably better off inviting fewer guests. |
| I say let them order whatever they want on the menu. Either full pay for this place or make him choose a place that doesen't offer menu items more expensive than want you want to pay. |
|
If this is his option, then don't be cheap.
Let everyone order whatever they want or just go to fast food. |
| You tell all the kids they have up to $25 for dinner, drinks and desert or what ever they want. No more. Have the wait staff run it by you for approval if you aren't at the the table. |
| I’d either tell him to pick a less expensive restaurant or tell his friends not to order $40 fish. Although how likely is it that teenage boys want fish? |
I cannot even feed my family of 4 with elementary school kids for $100. |
| I say pick a different restaurant. It is vulgar to take people out but impose a cash limit. |
🙄 you’re a moron. |
this |
| Restaurant might be able to accommodate a pre fixe menu where options are more limited. You could ask. |
then you are ridiculous |
| Or when you send invites, could get options and order ahead of time. Restaurants have accommodated this before. |
