Post your grocery list & cost

Just got tonight thinking I was being economical yet somewhat nutritious:

3 cans different beans
1 can crushed tomatoes
2 cans soup
1 dozen eggs
1 loaf WW bread
1 pound fresh sliced deli turkey, 1/2 pound roast beef
1 block Cabot cheddar
1 10-pack of tortillas
1 bag baby carrots
1 bag mini russet potatoes
1 box arugula
1 pack WW English muffins
4 ramen
1 box fig bars
1 box pressed fruit strips
6 mini cans tuna

$100.

This is breakfast lunch and snacks for a week and doesn’t even include dinner.

Everything is too expensive.

I'm usually $400-$500. Family of 3. Don't have a list for you but it's 1 week of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. Was $275-$330 in 2020.

2 adults and an elementary school student. We do ~ $300-350 a week which doesn’t include the kid’s lunches but includes most else. We do a lot of meat though which adds up.

I find Trader Joe’s really does help keep cost down for staples (and I’m addicted to their Eggwiches!)

That’s a good list OP. I’m along similar lines but sub in Kind bars for fig bars, and no ramen. I also buy whole chickens and make my own soup. I’ve been making green lentils these days with tuna or even goat cheese. For dinners I make regular meals for our family.

I should add I spend about $300-$350 for a family of 4. We also do take out a few times a week.

Where are you guys shopping? Those are crazy numbers.

We are a family of 6 (3 adults and 3 kids elementary and middle school) and spend about $ $225-250 at an ALDIs or Lidl. That includes snacks and all meals (except for once a week we order pizza), fruits and vegetables, etc. We cook so we don’t buy any ready to cook or tv dinners or prepared stuff.

I thought we were spending too much too!

Are you guys eating leftovers? We tend to eat leftovers all the time, that is, we can’t cook a new meal unless all previous meals have been eaten. So we often don’t even have to cook everyday.

We are a family of four (kids are 11 and 13) and doing our main grocery shopping at Aldi has made a huge difference in our grocery budget. I tend to buy meat at the farmers market and we’ve also been eating less meat, which also helps cut costs. I will say we usually have to pick up a few things at another store, but the Aldi trip is always worth it.

Same to Aldi. Family of 7 - kids 7-15 and spent $227 last week. That’s breakfast, lunch, dinners and snacks for the week. We spend anywhere from $200-275 per week shopping at Aldi.

I can buy all that for 50. You are overpaying

Everyone wants to comment but noone is doing the requested assignment. Don't just say...you are paying too much. List what you bought and how much you paid. Sure. Add where you shopped too. Saying you spend $800/month to feed a family of 4, doesn't mean shit. Maybe you eat like birds and your monthly bill looks like this....

Crackers-$800

That's a lot different than if you spend $1600 on a family of 4 in a month but there is

10 dozen eggs
8-1 pound steaks
6 pounds sweet potatoes
6 pounds of deli ham
6 pounds of deli turkey
4 pounds of cheese
2 bags of string cheese
Box of 32 yogurt
3 gallons milk
12 cans of campbells soup
1 case of gatorade
Nutella
24 waffles
18 hamburgers
Large Bag of Broccoli
2 large Bags of Spinach
2 Large bins of Tomatoes (Cherry)
Romaine Lettuce
Large Tomatoes
A few Onions
2 Bags of Asparagus
Large Bag of Brussel Sprouts
1 or 2 large bins Blue Berries
1-2 bins of Raspberries
6-8 Cucumbers
Pickles
12-18 Avocados
Several Bunches of Bananas
Bacon
3 loves of bread
Hamburger Buns
Hot Dog Buns
Almonds
Walnuts
etc etc etc.

I'm not saying I eat cheaply. I'm not saying I eat the healthiest but at least write down what and how much you buy at what cost so the information is useful. I shop predominately at Costco, Aldi, and Trader Joe's and our bill is around $1500-$1600 a month. Family of 4 with Two HS athletes.

$250-300/week here for a family of 4 w/ two teen boys, shopping at Giant or Harris Teeter. Big caveat is that we buy our meat separately, that probably works out to another $50/week.

Milk 1-2 gallons (I make yogurt with 1/2 gal every 2nd or 3rd week)
Cheese, 1 block
Butter, 1 lb (not every week, but most)
Sandwich bread, 2 loaves
Deli meat, 1-1.5 lbs
Lettuce, 2 heads
Spinach, 1 bunch or clamshell
Cucumbers, 2
Bell peppers, 4
Celery, 1 head (every other week-ish)
Cherry tomatoes, 1 big clamshell
Avocados, 1-2
Carrots, 1 bag (every other week-ish)
Broccoli, 1-2 heads
Asparagus, 1 bunch
One other vegetable like brussel sprouts or zucchini
Fruit - 2-3 pears, a mango or two, maybe a pineapple or cantaloupe. Every other week-ish a bag of small oranges or some apples.
One container of berries
Pasta, usually 1 lb box
Canned goods - usually 2-3 cans of something, either tomatoes or beans or coconut milk
Cookies, 1-2 packages
Other snacks for lunches & after school - bagged popcorn, chips, mac n cheese, granola bars

Other staples, not every week but on rotation, usually at least a couple per week - flour, sugar, spices, oil, vinegar, mayo, peanut butter, jam, dish soap / dishwasher detergent, etc

Then usually a few specialty items for the week's menu. This week there was a jar of salsa, tortillas, bagels, cream cheese, potatoes, and sour cream added to the normal list.

$50
2lb carrots
huge cabbage
3 apples
6 oranges
canaloupe
broccoli
garlic
5lb potatoes
whole chicken
lb cheese
quart yogurt
sour
5lb flour
chips and crackers (for my kid)
.5 lb coffee
1/2 gallon milk
can of green chilis
lard (not in the healthy category, but I'm making tamales)

I shopped the sales and bought the cheapest version of everything

I’m the poster to this post coming back to share grocery list as requested and bc hubs just shopped last night.

$160 at ALDIs

2 boxes of cereal
2 boxes of yoghurt tubes (for kids)
3 diff types of crackers
1 bottle marinade
A couple of bottles of kombucha
3 bags of family size chips
Bag of egg noodles
A couple cans of creamed soup
Deli mustard
One packet deli sliced cheese
5 lbs Chicken thighs
2 lbs steaks
Mushrooms
Blue cheese crumbles
Asparagus
Bell peppers
Zucchini
Cucumbers
Bananas
Garlic
Butter
Can of Garbanzo beans
Gallon milk
Sugar
Honey
Large container of cashews
2 dozen eggs
2 loaves of bread

I think that’s it. Note this bill is fairly low prob bc we have lots of stuff from previous weeks and we aren’t purchasing any large/bulk items. And this is for one week of groceries. We don’t usually buy bulk bc of lack of storage space and bc the most expensive part of our bill (fruits and veggies) have to be eaten fairly fresh.

We prob spend abt another $25-50 at other grocery stores to buy stuff we can’t find at an Aldi’s or Lidl. Hope this is helpful. I imagine my bill will be a lot higher when my middle school athletes get to high school and still play competitively!

NP: I just did the mental math as I pay attention to prices, what OP paid is right on target for what I'm seeing in stores - and I'm not talking Whole Foods either. My total came to $101 actually.
