i’ve always wondered why i see ncsl and odsl magnets on cars. it never made any sense to me.

My kid got an EDP magnet from a tournament couple years ago. WTF was I gonna do with that other than toss it?

LOL. Fair enough. I think it falls more on the inexplicable side than on the elitist side. Some of the other examples do as well. Now about those hood ornaments . . .

My '05 minivan rocks the 0.0 sticker if that makes anyone feel any better about the state of the DMV.

Why do you take it personally when parents are simply showing they are proud of their children? All of my stickers are about my kids' accomplishments, not mine. Not one of the stickers or magnets is about myself.

I certainly do not. I thought people were being sarcastic. And I don’t think the league sticker falls into the category of personal or child accomplishment in any event.

I guess if you think playing in a league is an accomplishment. But really, nobody cares about your kids accomplishments. Hell, half the time your Facebook friends don’t really care and they presumably know you. Plastering accomplishments on the back of a car is stupid.

Kids will get criticized and dumped on soon enough. There's no harm in celebrating your child and pushing him/her to do better. There's a short window in life to building up your kid's confidence. They need confidence in life to push themselves, ignore the haters (ahem), and succeed.

Confidence and grit come from experience, particularly disappointment/failure and overcoming.

You are doing your kid zero favors by shielding and providing constant unearned praise/fawning. Study after study bears that out.

Encourage and support, but they will earn it.

Are there some teams that exist only to play tournaments? I can't locate SYC Lions Orange 2006 boys anywhere.

I think a while back we tried to sort out which teams play in which leagues, but I couldn't find that.
