Travel Soccer teams around NOVA let's discuss Part II

When we last left off:

Parent posted scores of DA games showing a poor showing of Washington Spirit DA and asking people to draw conclusions. When attacked the person defended their post as merely stating facts and asking for discussion. Others felt it was simply trolling especially in light of the poor showing the first weekend by both VDA and FCV as well.

Now on to regular bickering.

I am still curious to hear from BRYC boys (U11-U12) parents who opted to remain with BRYC to do only tournaments and training. Has it been good? Are you paying the same as before? What will you do if your son doesn't make the ECNL team at U13? Is there a BRYC backup or will you be forced to find a new club then?

I think BRYC Elite Academy currently has three U13 boys' teams. The second one is in D4 of NCSL, and the third, which I think used to be an ODSL team, is in D8.

What's the deal with chantilly/cya especially the boys 2006 and 2005?

My child just started travel and I'm so glad I have no clue what any of this means. I hope that I never do. Ignorance is bliss!

My child is in his fourth year, and I have no idea what any of this means either. We should have a separate thread for girls' soccer, about which many of us could not care less.

If you're on the part II then chances are you are interested. My son started in U9 three years ago, I felt lost among all of the leagues, acronyms, training and developmental pathways and reading through this forum, among other articles, soccer-parent blogs, I do feel knowledgeable about the training DS is receiving as well as the systems of plays, ref calls, positions, team color choice, reasonable amount to pay for extra training & where, and my knowledge about the various uncertain paths a college soccer player can take has really opened my eyes to the level of dedication, on my part not to mention DS's, will be needed for a place to be offered, not to mention available scholarship $. I'm talking about DA, ECNL, Youth NT, ODP(skip it), so-called pricey US Soccer camps, PRIVATE TRAINING. You name it, there is a trainer out there who has already set-up website with some kind of elite academy name and a "pay here" button.

I'm not saying additional training is a scam, but knowing that what your really signing up for is additional touches on the ball as oppose to DC being developed and having a chance to be scouted as their brochure/website would promise is very useful.

Probably parents wanted to join DC even though CYA would no longer be a part of it. MYS and Loudoun have DA for U12(2006) this year. U12-U13 is the time when kids cross over to MS and either play different sports or join their school team. I remember it was around when I started to go to Luther Jackson that I got more interested in playing football, weightlifting, basketball, as oppose to soccer.

Carrying over a question from the last thread: Why did Gunston withdraw a U12 boys team from NCSL the day before the season started?

I am farther along than with you with my firstborn--about the same place with my second born. But-I have a 40-year history of travel soccer in this area.

I disagree about it just being "additional touches". If you find a fantastic trainer (usually completely outside of the travel systems and this paid for crap)--your kid's style of play and technical skill can improve drastically.

But--if your goal is just trying to get "looks" or a perceived pathway that's different.

If you want your kid playing quality soccer--you are going to have to step outside of the "system". I find the biggest crooks are from within the system. They make parents and players feel like their way is the only way and all of their practice and training HAS to come and be sanctioned by them. They love to put down anyone from the outside.

Baloney. The best players from this Country didn't go this straightforward route. They trained with the best, even if it wasn't in the US some of the time.

^^and a good coach/club would welcome that.

Yes, that's what I was asking re: cya. Lots of turnover. Seems like half the kids left?
One boys "A" team has 4 girls that they threw on the team when they didn't have another place for them.
They didn't replace the head guy so who is running the club?

Gunston joined Virginia NPL so I assume they had to pull their teams out of NCSL.
