“The prosecution presented evidence Friday that Magalhaes and the husband of the family she worked for, 38-year-old Brendan Banfield, had a sexual relationship for months. The attorney showed pictures of the Banfield's bedroom and closet the day of the murders compared to shortly after the au pair's arrest. In the eight months since the murders, it appears the au pair moved all her belongings into the primary bedroom. The prosecution also pointed out two photos of Magalhaes and Brendan Banfield together -- one on a nightstand and another on a dresser.”

Imagine what it is like for this little girl's kindergarten teacher -- she knows everyday that the girl is going home to live with a vicious killer who murdered the girl's mother. The teacher has to speak to BB as though he is a normal person.

Ugh.

Yes, totally agree. Very disturbing. I never understood why they wouldn’t have nightmares every night being in that home where your beloved wife and mom were murdered. It was so odd. Poor little girl to be raised last few months without her loving mom and with these crazy people.

The same bedroom the wife was stabbed/ murdered in?

Yep. And here some of us were, having a hard time understanding how they could stay in the house that these murders took place in. They not only stayed, but decided ground zero of the bloodbath would be a super sexy place for them to shack up. The lack of being bothered by something that would clearly bother a normal /nonmurdering person (living/sleeping/f***ing in a place where a brutal double murder *just* took place), that does a lot to dismantle any claims that they cared about CB. And any claims that they’re not, y’know, sociopaths.

This story is written terribly. Does anyone have any other articles from today’s bond hearing? Neighbors is the husband in his home? Are you folks afraid?

I'm sure her family was prepared by LE but to hear the details right down to photos in the bedroom 8 months out is a gut punch. They knew each other since teens, so much shared history and so much harm to a little girl that will impact her for life.

Tragic would be mom killed in a car accident. What is the word for all of this?

Evil.

Seriously! Thank goodness for LE. I thought they were too slow and didn’t get it. But now I think there was something much more complex and I hope they seek justice for the murdered mom of a five year-old and wife, and man they tried to pin it on.

Just doesn’t make sense. Also why on the earth would anyone bring a child into a home they were worried about safety. No mom would do that. Then go into a contained no escape/door (assuming it was no walkout?) place like a basement. And who goes to zoo at 7 am. What kid wakes up that early after eating cake and probably staying up late so off schedule to go to zoo next morning. And zoo doesn’t open up that early. Story is full of holes. I pray LE has evidence to put these people away and that little five-year old girl gets away from these crazy people. As the police chief said back in February or March, that little girl is true victim in all of this.

I'd have trouble buying a house where that just happened to a stranger.

A FOUR YEAR OLD was living in a home with the au pair literally slotted into mommy's bed. No wonder LE seems so determined to nail these sickos.

He could’ve just hired a hapless handyman to take the fall, but he wanted both his wife and this poor guy to look like deviants. That way, he looks like the loving, faithful husband who then can find love through grief… in the arms of his Au pair.

Agree.

“Ryan supposedly stabbed Banfield several times in her neck. Magalhaes’ lawyer said Banfield’s husband shot Ryan in his head, not killing him, but in a way the medical examiner said would have blinded Ryan. The lawyer said Banfield’s husband told Magalhaes to grab his gun, which she got out of a safe in the bathroom. Magalhaes said Ryan started flailing around or posed a threat of some sort, possibly moving to get up off of the ground. Her lawyer said that’s when she shot Ryan, hitting him in the heart, and killing him.”

Sincerely trying to be objective here but this makes no sense to me. BB already had Ryan incapacitated, but he told AP to go get his (other?) gun from the safe, which she would have access to and be able to open? Why would there be any need for both of them, one of them presumably with little to no firearm experience, to have guns drawn on an already-shot JR?

The story is coo coo for cocoa puffs. An insane amount of lies, starting with the assertion that the AP forgot the kid's lunch, went back to the house, saw a strange car and was so concerned she called the husband, and then because she was scared she took herself and the child INTO THE HOUSE.

I really want to read the transcript of this hearing.

Yes - but you'd have to pay the court reporter for it most likely. A news outlet will get it soon enough I'm sure. It might also be entered into the record of the case and might be available online. I'm gonna go look.

Yeah, I think the police wondered the same thing! Perhaps this is one part of the script that went awry. Maybe he wasn’t supposed to shoot JR with his service gun at all, but JR fought back and he did. And they panicked and decided to stick as closely to the original plan as possible and have her shoot him with the other gun.

Yeah, so think about this timeline. AP leaves with the daughter. Supposedly JR arrives and starts doing God knows what with the wife. AP realizes they forgot the lunch but was close enough to come back and get it instead of just buying a lunch at the zoo? If you’re already down the toll road why on earth would you come back? And if you’re just in the neighborhood, how could he have gotten there so quickly and started to attack Christine? The time isn’t timing.

I have thought that exact same thing. The teachers. So thankful they are there though to support this little girl.
