Bill's wife, Laura, lobbied hard against efforts to convert develop the Palisades Trolley Trail - public property which more than a few homeowners with properties abutting the trail have incorporated into their backyards - into a path that could be used by the community. The local ANC voted 11-1 in support of the trail, but DDOT has mysteriously forgotten about it. One can only imagine what lobbying went on behind the scenes.
Bill is on the website dedicated to preserving the trail too: https://trolleytrailpreservation.com/
"Why spend $15M-$20M to rework PPT when the Capital Crescent Trail exists?"
Sure and it's not clear why we need Sherier Pl when we have Canal Rd. Maybe we could bulldoze it? MacArthur High School is opening in the fall and kids wanting to bike there will have to brave the horror that is MacArthur Blvd thanks to these people. DDOT had the plans all lined up, the ANC endorsed, and then DDOT just stopped and said it was no longer a priority for them. Maybe just maybe it was because the opposition included a few people like this very close to the city's leadership?
Actually the other big reason is the opposition by Georgetown University.
