Are women's standards higher now or is it just a myth?

I'm a youngish woman. I hear lots of younger guys complaining that women's standards are higher now than in past generations, but how would they even know? They weren't dating 20+ years ago. Is there any truth to this or do they just have grass is greener syndrome?

Young men are prolonging their adolescent behavior - this is what the young women are avoiding.

It’s a myth. Plenty of loser men and loser women doing fine.

Women outnumber men in college now. Women want an equal at least education wise usually which means more women are demanding college educated men.

Men aren't succeeding in education so their social standing with women has gone down. Also the dating apps don't really teach young men how to socialize with women so if they aren't the top 10% good looking men then they have no idea how to approach women out in the real world. Men, of course, aren't going to blame themselves.

Women just don't need them anymore so yes, things have changed a lot.

Women’s standards were always high, but they had very limited opportunities until the last few generations so they had to eat crap on the regular and often spent their entire lives being mistreated and abused by men they had to settle for.

Now women don’t need men. And some of them really, really hate that.

+100

I know a number of women in their 20s-mid 30s who talk a big game about having standards but then date guys who don't fit the bill at all. All talk, no action on their part.

What those guys are complaining about are the constant dopamine hits that women can get nonstop daily from posting on IG and getting more tinder likes than they can respond to.

They worry that leads to the women they're pursuing having a higher opinion of themselves than, perhaps, they deserve.

I haven't found this to be true at all, but that's the complaint.

Those men are complaining because they feel entitled to the women they want and make up all sorts of excuses for why they are rejected

Women do have more options than they did generations ago they don't require a man to survive so they can be pickier. Some women exercise their options others don't.

Social media changes everything. 70 years ago, you married the guy from your neighborhood or your secretary at work. Maybe you got a dumpy loser, but he had a job and your best friends’ husband were kind of dumpy too, anyway. Now you are exposed 24/7 to other women’s hot and rich and funny boyfriends on TikTok, but hey he is really sweet to her too! People think social media creates envy, but it really just elevates dating standards to incredible heights most average men will never meet. You see a TikTok SAHM (blonde, petite, with three adorable children and a huge house her cute husband’s salary pays for), but your Tinder date takes you to a hip coffee shop, let’s you buy your own drink, waxes poetic about his band and is “in between jobs”…

I think the guys who are complaining about women with higher standards are themselves probably complaining about "higher standard" women. Women who are themselves fit and have good jobs are going to (in general) want the same.

Women have more options now, and at the same time young men are prolonging their adolescence. Men who respect women and pull their weight are snapped up quick, so it's not like there isn't demand.

Of course behind the scenes the Tik tok mom is in debt and her cute husband is banging other women at work conferences

I think women for the last 30 years have had higher standards. I will add a big "BUT" to this. Many do not have realistic expectations. You can't demand a 10 if you are not one yourself. The same goes for men.

I am middle aged and witnessed a lot of my peers pass on good guys because they did not believe they were up to their standards in regards to looks and income. Those people are still single and unhappy.

I am just saying, it is good to gave standards but be real about it.
