Boundary Review Meetings

The Oak Hill area that picked up students will be going to the new high school though, so not really.

Rolling Valley already is zoned for WSHS.

No, the Rolling Valley neighborhoods north of the Fairfax County Parkway which were going to Key and Lewis. Now they go to Irving and WSHS. The Rolling Valley neighborhoods sound of the parkway move to Saratoga and stay at Key and Lewis. They're taking the expensive homes and moving them into WSHS zone.

I know Emerald Chase is likely to make the cut for KAA, but it’s interesting that given how they completely dominated the community feedback sessions, they were the only community not to get what they wanted and are still assigned to South Lakes for both scenarios.

They are staying at OakHill under Scenario 4.

Lmao at them going through all this nonsense and rigmarole to keep most things the same in the end. Even some of the attendance islands and split feeders! This could have been an email!

Hahaha, the Navy/Franklin Farm and Oak Hill/Emerald Chase parents got their way!!!

I see Emerald Chase going to SLHS not Chantilly as they had wanted.

They should, right? Wasn't part of this exercise adding to underpopulated schools?

Nothing in the scenarios really helps Lewis or it's students in any meaningful way. Ridiculous.

Agree. I hope scenario 4 makes some attempt to help Lewis students (if they won’t just close the school outright).

Help them how? By zoning in other kids who will never go there? Like the 300 or so kids zoned there now who go elsewhere?

If kids are reassigned there, some may pupil place but not all.

Bottom line is that they’ve got to increase enrollment at Lewis. Seems like that could be accomplished by bringing more kids over AND increasing the academic offerings so they are incentivized to stay.

Lewis absolutely needs something now that they're at 1540 kids. I had no idea FCPS would let a singular pyramid operate at such a different level than the rest of the county.

Mount Vernon is at 1750. They’re at a crossroads for investing in those pyramids or setting in motion a school closure.

That's wild. Back in the 90s, 1500 was around the upper limit of the smaller FCPS schools, and it was fairly common. But there were also far fewer AP and advanced courses to fill.

Yes, but they are at Carson and South Lakes.
I think, though, this may work to their advantage and might make the KAA cut with Oak Hill. One of the complaints was Oak Hill and then to Carson --when most of Oak Hill goes to Franklin. (But, there is a very large AAP contingent at Carson.)

It looks like they gave part of Coates to Floris. Hope it is enough.

I guess the TL- McLean families got their way. Now they can go back to not caring about the Title 1 families now that they have used them to get wheat they want.
Anonymous
Only people pissed off on this thread in the south-central part of the county are people already zoned for Lewis who wanted WSHS neighborhoods rezoned so they could feel better about themselves.

It is really stupid to make any boundary changes to Chantilly/SLHS/Westfield right now when those kids will have to change high schools the following year.
Anonymous
Wait - when will these boundary changes take place?

I suspect they will work that out. Remember, this all starts in 2026.

Give it 5 years and Timber Lane will not be Title I anymore.
