Hi all,
FTM here. My baby is now 6 months. Curious to hear from all of you on when your period returned if you exclusively breastfed? Did it start like it was before or was it different? |
| 11 months |
| 9 months postpartum. No changes from before. |
| Honestly it was like 20 months. Obviously I breastfed for a long time. |
| Two kids both the same, it came back almost exactly 1 month after I weaned (weaned at @14 months) but I have friends that got pregnant when baby 1 was 7 or 8 months while they were still nursing so every woman is different |
|
Mine returned at 9-10 months each time (I have 3). A few of my friends got theirs well after a year, but my SIL got pregnant while EBFing a 3-month-old! Lots of varying experiences!
When my period came back, it was heavy, but I wouldn’t say abnormally so (I had pretty heavy periods pre-kids). While I continued to BF, the timing/length of each period was inconsistent, and stayed that way for a few months after I weaned (with my third— the first two kids, I got pregnant again while still BFing). |

First kid (good night sleeper): 4 months
Second kid (less good night sleeper): just had spotting that may possibly have been a first period. or not. at 11 months. |
| Not until I fully weaned with both. Six months with my first, and then 11 months with my second. And both my kids slept 8-9 hours a night from 4 months. |
| # 1 - 12 months, # 2 15 months, # 3 17 months. No changes, although I was very irregular after # 3. Oh, and # 3 was the best sleeper of the the lot (4-6 hours at a stretch from 2 months). Go figure. |
| Three kids all breastfed for a long time (18+ months). It came back at 5 or 6 weeks postpartum. In fact, I was on my period at my six week checkup. It was back to clockwork. So annoying! |
| Breastfeed for about 14 months. Period returned at 9/10 months. Unfortunately postpartum period has been significantly worse than it was before baby. Much heavier, longer, uncomfortable. |
Similar experience. Period came back somewhere around 10-12 months. I BF’d for 24 months—maybe a month or two longer with just one feed before bed. Period is far more difficult after having had a baby, even years later. OB said this is a common anecdote from mothers but does not have any data about how often this happens or why. |

3 months?
And I breastfed for 6 months for DC1 and 12 months exclusively for DC2 (and 2 years total). |
| With both it returned a month after I stopped completely. I didn’t get it back when I weaned over the course of a few months. It was a month after totally stopping. FWIW, DH and I had unprotected sex for 13 months when I was nursing with both and I did not get pregnant. I got pregnant on the first try with my first and the second try with my second, so I think my fertility was suppressed. |
| 4 weeks to the day I weaned. So, 11 months and 7 months PP for my 2 kids. |
