And need some motivation to lose 10-15 pounds. I am 39 and 5’7” and weigh around 150 now. I had 3 kids in my 30s with the youngest being 2. I desperately need to lose 10-15 pounds to feel better but have little motivation to calorie count since I have never done it before. In the past as long as I was working out (usually running) I could lose all the baby weight and be fine. I got down to around 145 after the last baby but gained about 5 pounds in the last few months from crappy eating and not running as much. Anybody else in the same boat? |
Use one of those apps where you write down everything you eat and be honest about your serving sizes. |
I use the free Lose It app and it has really helped me to maintain the weight I lost on Weight Watchers. I have gotten so used to tracking that I have to force myself to take a day or two off a week or else I become a little obsessive about it. |
You can just cut out the crappy foods, and snacks, keep to 3 meals a day and reduce your portions. That will make some inroads if you don't feel like calorie counting. I calorie estimate. I'm also 5'7 and I'm down to 140 from 167 (I am also 53 so older!).
I estimated 300-400 calories per meal x 3 for several months and I was losing 1-2 lbs per week. It doesn't sound like you need to lose as much as I did which is why I suggest just keeping an eye on what you are eating, and cutting the crappy stuff. |
+1 to this. If you have never had to count calories before then it means you probably have a decent diet. It also sounds like you know exactly where those extra calories are coming from vs the folks who come on here saying "I swear I only eat broccoli and have gained 20 lbs." The general rule is to do the bare minimum to lose weight. This is usually most sustainable. I would start by doing as suggested above. If the scale really won't move then start counting. |
Agree with the suggestion to stop eating garbage. If you eat high quality food the problem usually solves itself. |
If you’re going to do it, I think it’s a waste of time and energy if you don’t use a food scale for at least 2 weeks. People lie to themselves about portion sizes but packages lie even harder. A cup of cereal could be a wide range of grams and thus a wide range of calories (and somehow never on the low end). |
This is simply not true, but please keep telling yourself this. |
Worked for me and millions of other people. What’s your alternative? Get hooked to a $1000/month drug to lose the weight. Solid plan there. |
Or maybe calories in / calories out, which is what is actually supported by research. No one said a word about medication. But please continue with your "it's just about quality of food" morality bs. |
Not sure what you are angry about. If you want to suffer through reducing calorie intake by eating foods that don’t have much nutritional value and leave you hungry all the time, go right ahead. If instead you eat actual unprocessed real food you’ll have a better time and it’s more sustainable. That is a fact not a judgement. Nobody is judging you but you certainly seem like a person that’s decided everything is a judgement. |
The obese poster with a hatred for thins has turned up. Thread over. |
I love the Metabolism Makeover! You can learn a lot from their Instagram account and apply it to your life for free. They do offer some paid coaching options but I have never done them. I have completely changed by lifestyle because of them! |
