It looks like there isn't even an essay this year - just three 25 word prompts??
In the past, criteria programs have required a test and teacher reccs (both dropped bc of COVID) and an essay. Now there's not even an essay? |

Still no cogat this year?
I do worry some of these kids are going to get themselves into a program they can’t handle. Blair and RMIB are not joke, work wise. My kid had to figure out what a cogat was, take it, do the essays herself, etc….if she couldn’t manage all that, not sure how she’d be handling the IB there. |
Thank you! |
| As far as I can tell, this is the same application my now 10th grader used 2 years ago. |
+ 100 DC1 is in IB senior year doing well, but I don’t want DC2 to go through this, just too much work |
I think many people thought it was an abbreviated application due to the pandemic. I am curious how the current 9th and 10th graders are faring. |
| What's the essay topic? |
"What impact does DCUM have on school choice in MCPS?" |
Describe yourself and what you are passionate about as you study, work, and/or interact with others. |
Meanwhile other parents will hire a prep company to help them write their kid's essays. |
| And there we go again. Most if not all posts very quickly go into the "These kids got in because they prepped" or "These kids got in because their parents outsourced their essay" territory. This is nuts. Many kids get in because they just are smarter than the others. |
or test better. or had better sleep that night. or breakfast. or any number of other reasons. |
Not sure those with CogAT prep would do any better... |
| This year’s 8th graders are the last kids who took the COGAT via universal testing in 5th grade. During the admissions process, is there a look back at old COGAT scores or are they completely irrelevant? |
