Christina Henderson's bill means drivers could have their licenses suspended or revoked altogether based on what traffic cameras say

although i dont understand how they prove who was actually driving the car.

I think it’s great. So sick of seeing running red lights, speeding and other reckless driving in neighborhoods with no consequences.

There are consequences. DC camera tickets are notoriously expensive. The problem is that too many people just pay them because they have the money and it's not a burden or they don't pay and DC looks the other way.

Hell no. Add more cameras, more fines. But hell no to points.

The city's use of traffic cameras seems a wee bit predatory. Such a cash grab. Low-income people are hurt the worst here.

what is wrong with having the police enforce traffic laws? we have the largest police force in the country. i dont know what else they do all day, and a little bit of human judgement seems like it would be a good thing.

If people don’t want to be fined or lose points they should just follow the traffic laws. These people are such a menace, I feel like it’s every other day we see posts online about cars jumping the curve in residential areas. Every single day I see people just blowing through red lights. I need to tell my parents that when they’re out with my young son expect that cars won’t stop at red lights or give you the right of way when you have a walk sign.

They could, you know, not run red lights, stop signs or obey the speed limit and avoid those pesky fines.

You know how many people have died this year on D.C. streets? 24. Out of tens of millions of trips. You're more likely to be murdered.

Because we have a way of assigning fines without wasting the time and resources that could otherwise be engaged in the community and fighting crime.

Or they could invest in all the different ways to make your license plate unreadable to traffic cameras. Seems more likely.

This is a ploy to get VA and MD to come to the negotiating table and introduce reciprocity for traffic tickets issued in DC.

MD and VA does not enforce payment of DC-issued camera tickets on its drivers. So MD and VA drivers can rack up thousands of dollars in tickets and not pay a dime. Nor will it affect the driver's insurance rates.

However, DC can impose points on drivers of other states. That will get the attention of MD and VA residents, plus their elected officials.

Carrot and stick, folks. That's all this is.

Already illegal to obscure your license plate in DC. My FIL (with MD plates) recently got a ticket in DC for having a clear cover on his license plate. He was pulled over by MPD! They ain't messing around.

Can't people challenge these tickets by just denying they were the ones driving? It seems like the city has no way of proving who was behind the wheel.
