Labor Sec. Acosta accused of helping Jeffrey Epstein beat sex trafficking charges

Facing a 53-page federal indictment, Epstein could have ended up in federal prison for the rest of his life.

But on the morning of the breakfast meeting, a deal was struck — an extraordinary plea agreement that would conceal the full extent of Epstein’s crimes and the number of people involved.

Not only would Epstein serve just 13 months in the county jail, but the deal — called a non-prosecution agreement — essentially shut down an ongoing FBI probe into whether there were more victims and other powerful people who took part in Epstein’s sex crimes, according to a Miami Herald examination of thousands of emails, court documents and FBI records.

The pact required Epstein to plead guilty to two prostitution charges in state court. Epstein and four of his accomplices named in the agreement received immunity from all federal criminal charges. But even more unusual, the deal included wording that granted immunity to “any potential co-conspirators’’ who were also involved in Epstein’s crimes. These accomplices or participants were not identified in the agreement, leaving it open to interpretation whether it possibly referred to other influential people who were having sex with underage girls at Epstein’s various homes or on his plane.

As part of the arrangement, Acosta agreed, despite a federal law to the contrary, that the deal would be kept from the victims. As a result, the non-prosecution agreement was sealed until after it was approved by the judge, thereby averting any chance that the girls — or anyone else — might show up in court and try to derail it.
This is the story of how Epstein, bolstered by unlimited funds and represented by a powerhouse legal team, was able to manipulate the criminal justice system, and how his accusers, still traumatized by their pasts, believe they were betrayed by the very prosecutors who pledged to protect them.

The Epstein case is crazy; I've been following it for years. He used Mar-a-Lago to recruit underage girls for sex parties and abuse.

Epstein is supposedly a hedge funder, but no one can find any evidence of his fund existing in real life. I'm convinced he works for foreign intel agencies to collect kompromat on US male celebrities, politicians, and titans of business.

You're joking, right? Clinton released a statement about it in response to questions from journalists.

No, the PP is not joking. We have devolved to an us versus them tribalism, even when it comes to child rape.

Back in 1920s Indiana, there was a Klan leader by the name of D.C. Stephenson who had deeply infiltrated Indiana politics -- up to and including the sitting governor. In 1925, he raped and beat a young woman severely enough to lead to her death. However, she lived long enough to make a statement to the police. Stephenson was convicted, but was hoping for a pardon from the governor. When he didn't get one, in 1927, he spilled his guts and turned over all his documents to an Indianapolis newspaper. The Klan in Indiana -- which had claimed as members up to something like 1/3 of adult white males -- was eliminated almost overnight. Numerous state Republicans were indicted.

There is a part of me hoping for fallout like that from this Epstein matter. And just to head the partisans off at the pass, I don't really care if it's primarily Republicans or Democrats who take the fall. I think there is a sickness at the highest levels of power that needs to be exposed. Sunlight is the best disinfectant.

If this happened, it would be great.

Yes, I thought any time today was too soon. I happily admit to my defeat.

+1 Exactly. And we know Clinton never lies.

So Clinton is your "LOOK SQUIRREL" thing here. Got it.

Trump and Epstein go back decades. Trump is the one who told NY Mag that he and Epstein share taste in young women, and that Epstein is a great guy.

Clinton is a pig, too. They're all guilty! This isn't right-left thing.

For reasonable people this isn't a right left thing. For Trump's addled supporters, it certainly is.
