Feedback on VLC Club Lacrosse?

List goes on and on.

Dalton Young at Richmond
Nick Capannelli at Air Force

Anyone saying that VLC kids don't go D1 is just wrong. VLC is smart and really tries to support kids that want to play at the next level and lets them know that unless you REALLY want it (and have the goods), D1 isn't the only way to keep playing. For 99% of the kids on every elite club team in the country, lacrosse stops after college. Some may play in the PLL or elsewhere and some may coach, but I would hope that your child is focused on getting and education more than how many GBs they picked up against xyz in the last game.

For a two year old team, VLC 2025 continues to outperform a lot of other team in the mid atlantic!

They’re 2-3 in HoCo, so I guess two teams is “a lot”. 🙄
Now 2-4 in hoco. maybe they will outperform next week. or not.

And remember parents, college coaches when they are looking to recruit your son will always ask first "what was your teams record in HoCo?" from there they will ask other probing questions like "what is your teams tournament record?" and "does your kid go to a private school or public" and finally "what schools did other players from your program go to?" We all know that past performance is 100% indicative of future success. That is why all the basketball players from Emsley A. Laney High School go straight to the pros. Emsley A. Laney High School is where Michael Jordan went and clearly they breed NBA GOATs so it totally makes sense.

And remember parents, when your kid's high school coaches see that after years of playing your kid plays like a 6th grader with no stick and no clue but a lotta swagger, your kid's best days may be behind him.

With this team's gk and fo, they just need average field play to win. There's no discipline or accountability. Tc game would have been 12-2 without the vlc fo.

First thing ds says after the game is how good the other team's coach was. ??? HC gameplan is rahrah+bad shot, and if it doesn't work more rahrah. Team needs Dico/Z.

are Dico/Z still running vlc or did they take a break? one of these guys is supposably in real estate so ya figure they would get the concept of absentee landlords who own the place but are never there and don't feel obliged to take decent care of it. hiring poor property managers who dont know what they are doing isnt an excuse and theres no cheerleading bandaid thats gonna fix what these f ups have failed to do.

Is this from the same guy who swears his son is not on the 2025 team? That's a lotta detail from just a casual observer.

Haha, right. I'm sure it's not the same guy with an axe to grind--and it's pretty obvious who it is, too.

I would suggest that the upset 2025 parent or non parent contact coach Z and provide your coaching advice.

With the exception of two theses are all highly selective schools and admission is tough without something to add to the community. GPA/SAT/ACT scores won't do it alone as they turn away top scoring kids all the time. Colleges want a mix so its not the top 15% of students who get into a 15% acceptance rate school. They want diversity (not just gender or race) in fields of study, interests, hobbies and activities. Lacrosse and other athletics are a great way to put your already stellar kid over the top. What it WON'T do is get your kid that doesn't meet the schools standards into the school. Coaches would be doing themselves a disservice as well as the kid by putting them in an academic environment they can't handle. D1 is totally different, but D3 wants a STUDENT/ATHLETE but student first.

For reference here are some acceptance rates in the NESCAC I could find quickly:
Amherst - 11%
Bates - 12%
Bowdoin - 9%
Colby - 9.7%
Connecticut College - 34%
Hamilton - 16%
Middlebury - 15%
Trinity - 33%
Tufts - 15%
Wesleyan - 16%
Williams - 13%

Yes but in my opinion lax isn't really special or interesting enough to give your child an edge. It does check the "athletics" box and possibly "leadership" as well if they're team captains. But a large number of these applicants are from DC/MD/NY/NJ UMC public and private/boarding schools, and that's the same population that plays lacrosse. Something like kayaking or ice climbing would be a sport that would make an applicant actually stand out. And they'd need to be nationally ranked. So I wouldn't play club lacrosse fees and spend that much time on lax unless your kid loves it and would do it regardless of college admissions.

"DC/MD/NY/NJ UMC public and private/boarding schools" are the "same population" that plays lacrosse, but only a small number of kids who attend these schools also play lacrosse.

If you live in this area, your kid is competing against that "population" anyway - regardless of whether your kid plays lacrosse or not - and your kid is better off competing with lacrosse on his resume than without it.

What you want to know is, "is my kid getting better?" and "how does my kid compare to other kids the same age?"

How would you know this in the absence of information like "he is good enough to be on a team in the Elite or AAA divisions in HoCo" and "his team does well in Hoco and in tournaments"?

You're going to get the same sort of "feedback" at the high school level - is he a starter or a benchwarmer on an elite team, or on a team that sucks?

We all know that past performance is not 100% indicative of future success, but it is not 100% irrelevant to future success either. Or at least, I'd like to see you prove that case.

Just to take HoCo as an example, right now Team 91 is at the top of the Elite division and PLC Black is at the bottom of the B division. Are we going to argue that those teams are equally well coached? Are we going to argue that a player on Team 91 and a player on PLC Black have equal chances of future success on high school lacrosse teams and equal chance of D1 college recruitment? That would be a fascinating case to make, because that is the ultimate logic of "who cares about your record in HoCo and in middle school tournaments, they don't matter".

Lots of recent CNU commits. Love to see that as I think CNU is fast becoming one of the gems of the VA colleges.
