They lucked out because Virginia won the draw for the state wild card for that age group. They did not win an event to get there, having lost in the State CUp finals. But when you're VYS, you'll take what you can get. |

The poor records demonstrate that by and large for the whole of the CLUB, VYS is simply not fielding COMPETITIVE teams. The question is why? Reason provided have ranged from: 1. "We lose all our talent to DA and ECNL". I provided the records of the younger ages to see if this bore any fruit. And based on records, for what they are worth at younger ages, there was simply no evidence that younger VYS teams perform any differently relative to their older cohorts. 2. "The club is making changes, hence the purpose of this thread to discuss". This implies that organizational problems were to blame. This will take time to sort out. The major hurdles to seeing sustained improvement will rely on several factors, among them are player recruitment and retention as well as coaching recruitment and retention. 3. VYS is no different than any other club and you are nothing more than a troll for pointing out things that we believe to be meaningless." The Win/Loss records are nothing more than a symptom. So while reasonable parents will make a decision based on more than a win/loss record at U10, parents of older kids however will want their kids on competitive teams for a variety of reasons. For some parents finding a pathway for their child to play at their highest level is important, for other parents they just want a place for their kids to play. Currently, VYS is lacking in the destination department for kids seeking a pathway. Again, VDA might change that but in reality it applies only to younger kids. Older players seeking a pathway to college would likely look elsewhere. |
This is great news! |
Answer this last one: You have made your point and I think it is fair to say you have. How come you keep posting? We aren't buying what you are selling. Are you on mission to rid the world of VYS? |
PP ^^
I think you misconstrue the point of my posts. Many of the posts here seem to be in denial of the actual state that VYS is in. Particularly in image from the outside. Any criticism is met with "you're a troll" or "you're just a bitter ex coach or board member". These statements are made as if in denial that the criticisms may be valid. Part of improving anything is starting off with an admission that there is in fact a problem. My posts were only meant to point that fact out in hopes that it would stir constructive dialog. But clearly people are not ready to talk about what the club needs to improve if they are not yet willing to accept that it needs anything to begin with. |
Shouldn't that be a conversation with the board or the TDs? |
There have been problems in VYS, and there still are. But the fact remains that the win/loss record of the Red teams affects maybe five percent of the players in VYS. And the win/loss record of the U10 teams in tournaments tells you absolutely nothing. If they were all finishing last in the lowest bracket of the worst tournament, OK, maybe that would be cause for concern -- but even then, it would raise more questions than answers. If you want to win a U10 game, you basically need 2-3 athletes -- one at the back to boot the ball a long way, 1-2 up the field to outrun the defense and score. And a good goalkeeper, who at this age can single-handedly account for a three-goal, four-goal, even five-goal swing in any particular game compared with someone who drew the short straw and had to go back there. (In fact, I happen to know Vienna teams tend to rotate the goalkeeping position among most or all players on a given U9 or U10 team. That's certainly bad for results. Whether it's bad for development is a tougher question to answer.) Look at the Madison girls soccer team that won the region. A lot of them are VYS players. Some are ex-VYS who went to play in ECNL or other elite competitions. Madison's boys had a similar run a couple of years ago. Is it the most elite club in the region? Not by a long shot. Is it a good community club with a lot of the same issues as any community club and the capacity to develop good players and even the occasional good team? Yes. That's not ignoring problems. That's not claiming every VYS team is as good as the U18 girls. That's reality. Personally, I'd pull VYS teams out VPL and focus on sending good players to VDA. That's a viable mission, and as long as the coaching is good (as in any club, it can vary from coach to coach or even year to year, given the itinerant nature of many coaches), Vienna families have no reason to panic and send their U5 kids to Loudoun. |
And I'd bring in a new VP of House -- which, in fact, they just did. |
What would pulling out of VPL accomplish? PWSI has DA, the other clubs are just affiliates. |
Pulled off an upset of sorts today, too. Beat a very good team from Jersey. |
Major upset, in fact . . . |
Yes we get it, "oh VYS is so horrible and worse than any other club in the universe." How about you just STFU and move on because nobody here GAF what you have to say.....if you have an honest beef, take it up with the club TDs instead of whining like a brat who just wet his panties. |
It is obvious that you are not ready for a discussion. |
you are one of the team's parents? |
