PP ^^ I think you misconstrue the point of my posts. Many of the posts here seem to be in denial of the actual state that VYS is in. Particularly in image from the outside. Any criticism is met with "you're a troll" or "you're just a bitter ex coach or board member". These statements are made as if in denial that the criticisms may be valid. Part of improving anything is starting off with an admission that there is in fact a problem. My posts were only meant to point that fact out in hopes that it would stir constructive dialog. But clearly people are not ready to talk about what the club needs to improve if they are not yet willing to accept that it needs anything to begin with.
There have been problems in VYS, and there still are. But the fact remains that the win/loss record of the Red teams affects maybe five percent of the players in VYS. And the win/loss record of the U10 teams in tournaments tells you absolutely nothing. If they were all finishing last in the lowest bracket of the worst tournament, OK, maybe that would be cause for concern -- but even then, it would raise more questions than answers. If you want to win a U10 game, you basically need 2-3 athletes -- one at the back to boot the ball a long way, 1-2 up the field to outrun the defense and score. And a good goalkeeper, who at this age can single-handedly account for a three-goal, four-goal, even five-goal swing in any particular game compared with someone who drew the short straw and had to go back there. (In fact, I happen to know Vienna teams tend to rotate the goalkeeping position among most or all players on a given U9 or U10 team. That's certainly bad for results. Whether it's bad for development is a tougher question to answer.) Look at the Madison girls soccer team that won the region. A lot of them are VYS players. Some are ex-VYS who went to play in ECNL or other elite competitions. Madison's boys had a similar run a couple of years ago. Is it the most elite club in the region? Not by a long shot. Is it a good community club with a lot of the same issues as any community club and the capacity to develop good players and even the occasional good team? Yes. That's not ignoring problems. That's not claiming every VYS team is as good as the U18 girls. That's reality. Personally, I'd pull VYS teams out VPL and focus on sending good players to VDA. That's a viable mission, and as long as the coaching is good (as in any club, it can vary from coach to coach or even year to year, given the itinerant nature of many coaches), Vienna families have no reason to panic and send their U5 kids to Loudoun.
