Neither are you. Some of us are, which is why some of this thread has been useful. To answer the question on why I'd pull VYS out of VPL -- I just don't see what they're gaining at this point. The top girls teams can (and do) find better competition outside VPL. The winless boys teams should go to leagues in which they aren't getting crushed by the best non-DA players in Richmond. And if you're trying to get your top players in VDA, then the whole "see all the club's best players in all age groups at one place" notion, which was flawed in the first place, is diminished even further. Also, I'd enter all VYS House teams from U-11 on up in SFL, and I'd start a pickup rec soccer program for people who don't want to do that or can't commit to a whole season. And I'd do a better job of publicizing VYS's college commitments (yes, they have some) and publicizing the club's possession-based style. (And perhaps bidding farewell to any coaches who don't play that way.) |
I see now what you mean by pulling out of VPL. Hmmmm, probably a good short term idea but I'm not sure that it would be a good long term solution. Part of the equation has to involve a carrot. While at older ages wins can act as a carrot, opportunity/pathway is still the major balance of the equation. I'm not sure that NCSL can serve as a carrot. |
I hope VPL will be better this year, a few more teams have joined. Great Falls and I think VSA. |
VSA was always in VPL |
I think you're thinking of Gunston. In other news, VYS will be without an executive director moving forward. I have no idea if that's a good thing. |
VYS was favored: http://youthsoccerrankings.us/rankings/Region1/18/Girls/ But agsin, whatever it takes to make yourself feel better |
Um ... 8 PLAYERS DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY SHORE (NJ) [34] 37.44 9 OPSA MAGIC (MD) [38] 37.38 10 CEDAR STARS ACADEMY MONMOUTH (NJ) [58] 37.07 11 FC STARS OF MASSACHUSETTS NPL (MA) [60] 37.04 12 HMMS EAGLE FC VILLA (PAE) [62] 37.01 13 VIENNA YS PHOENIX (VA) [66] 36.88 The results page: http://tournaments.usyouthsoccer.org/events/2017-Region-I-Championships/Game/64183/VYSPhoenix99VASWC/PDAShore99NJERL/ And no, that's not an update since you last looked at it. The update time on that page is 5:03 AM MDT Friday. If you're following your own link Saturday morning, it might flip VYS ahead of PDA -- I'm not sure how quickly it'll capture Friday's results. A screen capture: http://imgur.com/a/OjKkA Of course, you're just going to tell us that they're no good because they're only 66th in the entire freaking country or whatever, ignoring the fact that you're so desperate to discredit VYS that you either (A) can't tell the difference between an 8 and a 13 or (B) you think we're so stupid that we weren't going to follow the link. |
No, I think he was telling you the exact opposite. A "major upset" would be if VYS was ranked 200th in the region and they went on to beat PDA. The difference between 13th and 8th is not that great. This VYS team is obviously a very strong so while technically lower ranked and an "upset" the teams where close enough that it was really anyone's game.

From that post: He doesn't have a point besides trying denigrate all things VYS no matter what. Then he gripes that no one wants to have a reasonable discussion, even though we've had plenty of reasonable discussions in this thread. |
Same VYS team will also play in U.S. Club Soccer National Cup finals, which seems like overkill:

I never denigrated VYS. I simply stated that this particular team was ranked highly and as such it was a minor upset. To say that VYS is struggling as a club isn't denigrating or news, it is just facts. I have made no personal attacks, passed any judgment, mocked or laughed at your club. I stated facts, facts that anyone can look up and see for themselves. |
This isn't overkill. This is a great recruiting opportunity for these kids. |
You mocked people ("whatever it takes to make you feel better"), passed plenty of judgment and offered up "facts" that don't hold up under scrutiny. Let's move on to the actual issues within the club, which are: 1. Finding the right level of play in an environment in which everyone's fleeing to an "elite" league. 2. Balancing that level of play with travel requirements. I know plenty of Vienna parents who simply do not want VPL travel, and some have gone to top-tier NCSL teams or elsewhere. 3. Field space. Must be nice to be in Loudoun. 4. Finding the right level of competition for a town with a population of a little under 17,000 (expand to surroundings, maybe 30-40k, but there's plenty of competition for those players) that is a traditional baseball powerhouse. 5. Rebuilding rec play for U9s on up. 6. Going with or without an executive director. (They've just announced that they're going without again.) I'm glad people care enough to discuss all that. A lot of clubs have similar issues -- or unique issues -- but people here seem to care more about VYS. So let's move on and do that. |
The "what ever makes you feel better post" wasn't me. |
The facts do hold up. They are actual records. They are real. You can disagree with what those results mean in regards to how it reflects upon VYS but that doesn't make the facts wrong. |
