The purpose of terrorism is to cause terror. How scary would just buying the plane be? Does not make world news. |
It would be incredibly dumb for N. Korea to have done it. They would face the wrath of China and they are already unpopular in their region of the world. It would give so many countries a good reason to invade them and topple the regime. |
Totally off topic, but I wonder if this sites revenue is going to jump this month due to this thread- look at the number of visits! |
Daily Mail mentions and maps it to Pakistan, that's where I got it from. My thoughts were Somolia. |
North Korea has the prisons and the need. |
With all the attention on N Korea, don't you think they're monitoring planes? ("They" meaning "us".) |
Wasn't Bin Laden in Pakistan without mention for a number of years? |
Even if we knew where it was, Malaysia is leading the investigation. |
My point is, don't you think the US is already monitoring all flights in and out of N Korea anyway? They would have seen it. |
Does Malaysia know what it is doing in leading the investigation? |
Yes, I had thought Somalia too (I think they tried stealing a plane already, and they may be branching out from pirating ships) but don't think the plane could get there; too far?
N. Korea is nutty enough to try this but are they coordinated enough? I do think that it's entirely plausible that the jet flew over Indian or Chinese airspace and went undetected (just like it did over Malaysia) and they don't want to appear vulnerable by admitting it. |
Bin Laden was more of a symbolic figurehead. It's good that we got him, but if you think he was that significant of a threat, then that's an extremely simplistic understanding. If you know anything about geopolitics, you know that Saudi Arabia is, was, and will continue to be the greatest threat. Saudi is the reason Pakistan has gotten more radicalized. But Saudi is also a close ally. Go figure? |
I think the PP's point was that someone was paid to look the other way. |
Malaysia doesn't have much of a choice - they are required by international treaty to lead the investigation, until a wreckage if found (at that point, if its found in the waters of another country, that other country takes over). Malaysia does not have anywhere close to the resources, labor, equipment, technology, experience, etc as we do with these things. Not having the same capacity does not mean they're not trying. |
I think PP has been watching too many international crime dramas. |
