Agree. This is classic manic behavior.

No it's not. This does not strike me as mania.

The ones that went on the Today show and lied?

I think they believed her, were simply in denial their child could have done something so horrible. I can’t imagine how they must be feeling right now.

To me, that doesn't matter. They had their daughter back. They should have shut up at that point. Why did they go on the show? To defend themselves and their daughter's honor - purely selfish reasons. By going on the Today show and repeating her story, they stoked fear in the community and made it even harder for victims in the future to be taken seriously. I would have sympathy if they would have kept a low profile and let this play out.

You and your arrogance also have the benefit of being an armchair quarterback.
You're not emotionally involved (and exhausted). You didn't go through 3 long days of no sleep, not knowing where you child was. You have no idea.

Hindsight is 50/50, and you have no idea how you'd react in the same situation.
You couldn't know, and if you say you do, you're lying.
This situation is completely unrelatable.

I imagine they were being advised of what to do/say by family, friends, other influences, etc and they followed someone's lead.

These aren't professional scam artists, they're people who believed that their daughter was missing and may not see her ever again, and when they find out she was lying, they probably didn't know how to proceed from there.

From what I read, the show was booked long before she came home .. do you think they were gonna let them back out without a fight?? Shows like "Today" (who are in DAILY ratings wars with other morning shows) put an immense amount of pressure on these types of families, and make promises they usually don't keep.

It's a situation that her parents weren't mentally prepared for -- they deserve our grace, not your never ending judgements.

Lol. You are a lunatic

I do feel sorry for her parents and what truly had to be unimaginable initial terror, but they should not have doubled down on what were obviously easily discredited lies. Especially after cries of racism and LE in earlier parts of investigation. Bad optics. Thinking the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree when it comes to dishonesty.

LE is much more diplomatic than I would have been. They are the only ones coming out of this looking non-whacky.

I understand I’m from not the south and it’s generally a whole other universe to me, but I don’t believe they could’ve handled this clear fabrication any better. Especially as family and friends still continue to lie to media and the public. It would’ve been so much easier to make a statement thanking LE and everyone who came out and supported them and now that Carlee is home, the family is going to take some time and require privacy to do so. It would’ve even been reasonable to say school pressure is tough and sometimes people need a break etc etc. But between the fighting physically yet somehow having the foresight to grab her Target snacks, this girl is a real nutcase.

Are you such a snob that you expect Hoover/Alabama LE to be stupid? Check yourself.

It’s a fair assumption that many smaller PDs, and some larger ones, will be pretty incompetent in many things. The police botching an investigation is something you hear about rather frequently.
.

You singled it out based on it being in the south. Own your prejudice and do better.

And who are you again, Smug Sanctimonious Sally? Oh, right. Nobody. Stop issuing directives and take a seat. DP.

Anonymous wrote:Wow, I think her 911 call sounds totally believable and real. It definitely answers son of the nitpicking questions people have like how did know it was a boy and why did say it was a toddler or why did she say a 3 year old in a diaper. Etc.

I'm surprised the 911 operator didn't keep her on the phone until the officers arrived. I feel like usually they do. And I would expect 911 to instruct more on what to do, other than just keep an eye on the child.

I still don't think the idea that someone planted the kid as a lure makes sense. But I'm not sure Carlee is trying to pull something.

Where can I listen to the 911 call? I couldn't watch the press conference.

Honestly I don’t think it’s just stupidity. This is a level of desperation that she reached to dip out of life. Also, no matter what the reason turns out to be - this is a mental health issue. Full stop. Normal people do not do this. Normal people have bad spells in life and don’t do this. If a normal person does do this….it’s because something has broken down mentally...making it a mental health issue. I was a 25 year old who did not always have my sh*t together and the stupid things I did were like...drinking too much at the company holiday party or continuing to talk to a guy I knew was no good for me. That's normal 25 year old bad judgment stuff. Not creating an elaborate kidnapping ruse involving an unclothed toddler on the side of the interstate to get back at an ex-bf.

She should be charged of course but I also hope she gets some assistance with her very obvious issues.

I disagree. Her Dad was clearly uncomfortable and her mom genuinely was distraught for days/ if anyone is to blame it’s Carlee.

Why the hell is it a “request?” She made a false report to 911.

My brother has a Halloween prop which he converted into Inauguration Bernie Sanders in 2020 when that meme was everywhere. They were the hit of the neighborhood with “Bernie” sitting in a lawn chair in their driveway on Halloween, complete with parka and oversized knit mittens, clutching a manila envelope. Maybe I’ll ask to borrow it and set it up wearing a robe and clutching a roll of TP and a box of Cheezits.

Go ahead... pat yourself on the back one last time for your incredibly insightful 50/50 chance analysis.

Not the PP, but simmer down. It’s OK for you to admit you were wrong.

They raised her. They have an idea of what she's capable of or at least know more of her history that this didn't come out of left field. Probably some permissive parenting is what led to this situation in the first place. Hopefully this is the wake up call the entire family needs in order to get help or open their eyes.

If you don't think good parents even wind up with kids who are messed up...you have not lived very long.

+1 so true. Sometimes good parenting cannot overcome one's genetic makeup.

I’m a PP who said I’d come back to admit I was wrong.

I was wrong.

I really didn’t think this was a hoax because it’s just insanely moronic. Calling 911, searching the internet, the lack of common sense, and the absolute torture of her family…..all unbelievably selfish and stupid.

I’ll just say this….I’m really pissed. I hope her selfishness doesn’t cause another missing woman—especially a missing Black woman—from getting the attention and publicity she deserves.

God, what an idiot.

I appreciate it, and I appreciate you. You were more generous than I was to her. You have a good spirit.

I'm the PP who was asked about eating crow. There was so much about this that was off, but it fit the pattern of a self-staged abduction so well. I also lived in the area for a long time and know people there, and though I wasn't going to pass on rumors I couldn't substantiate (and still won't), it kept unfolding and unfolding that the true story (now discussed by the HPD) did not seem to be any action out of character.

Anyway. Good on you for believing in people, and don't let this jade you. She is somewhat anomalous, to be kind.

I appreciate your kindness. I am the PP you quoted (and the “eating crow” PP).

Here I am eating my share…. 🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛

Babygirl, that will not do a'tall. Get yourself some beans and some good cornbread and call it even.

+1 and maybe some grits

Well her life is ruined, and it will be challenging for her loved ones to forgive her. I hope that’s sufficient deterrence!

No, I think there should be criminal charges. I don't necessarily think she needs a harsh punishment, but a conviction ensures that these actions follow her. Would you want someone like, with so little regard for truth, this caring for your child or your parents? A conviction would come up on employment and licensing background checks, ensuring that this episode will be known and considered before she can be put in a position of trust.

You don't think that the court of public opinion will haunt her for the rest of her life?? 🤯

Of course they will, but that doesn’t mean she should escape charges and a record for what she did.

Someone in her family needs to put her under a 5150 and then they need to pay a. HUGE fine for her wasting of police time and resources.
