Woman missing after reporting seeing a toddler on the highway

Did they say it was a hoax? Not following and didnt watch press conference. Just read an article that said she was searching the movie Taken and Amber alerts on her computer.

For anyone who didn't get to watch live, but wants to, here's the news conference: https://youtu.be/ywjupbGPuYM

They didn't officially call it a hoax, but they definitely implied it. I think they're trying to be sensitive.

Her career is basically ruined but honestly I wish she would be brought up on charges

I’m not sure her career is ruined, but she has a lot of growing up to do.

She’s young. 25 year olds—especially sheltered 25 year olds—are a little unhinged. Hopefully this experience will knock some sense into her. It needs to start with her parents though.

Come on. By 25 I was married, in law school, and preparing for the birth of my first child. A 25 year old is not a teen.

This. At 25, I was engaged, in law school with strong job prospects lined up, living on the other side of the country from my family.

My mom likes to remind me that when she was 25, my dad was the dean of a phd program, and my mom would host the 15+ phd students and their SOs to a full seated meal at our home.

My "unhinged" friends at age 25 were doing dumb stuff like driving by an ex's house or drinking too much.

I was once a sheltered, dumb and (unbeknownst to me at that time, mentally ill) twenty-five year old. I decided to drop out of law school and live on the beach in Mexico. That was considered pretty nuts by pre-social media standards, but no one outside of my circle knew and I didn't wasted millions of people's time and money. (I ended up finishing law school and then dropping out of big law after a few years like a pretty normal thirty year old lol).
Pretty cool though, minus the mental illness. You got to go to law school, work biglaw, and experience living on the beach in Mexico. Instead of just being a grind.

I’m a PP who said I’d come back to admit I was wrong.

I was wrong.

I really didn’t think this was a hoax because it’s just insanely moronic. Calling 911, searching the internet, the lack of common sense, and the absolute torture of her family…..all unbelievably selfish and stupid.

I’ll just say this….I’m really pissed. I hope her selfishness doesn’t cause another missing woman—especially a missing Black woman—from getting the attention and publicity she deserves.

God, what an idiot.

I appreciate it, and I appreciate you. You were more generous than I was to her. You have a good spirit.

I'm the PP who was asked about eating crow. There was so much about this that was off, but it fit the pattern of a self-staged abduction so well. I also lived in the area for a long time and know people there, and though I wasn't going to pass on rumors I couldn't substantiate (and still won't), it kept unfolding and unfolding that the true story (now discussed by the HPD) did not seem to be any action out of character.

Anyway. Good on you for believing in people, and don't let this jade you. She is somewhat anomalous, to be kind.

I think it shouldn't cause that because some of us don't jump to conclusions the way some vocal posters on the Internet do; and we would be just as concerned tomorrow if a similar case happens. Even if this points to a personality disorder as some have speculated--none of this is entertainment. It is someone's life.

They sound like they’re trying to give her a chance to come forward before it gets even more embarrassing.

The ones that went on the Today show and lied?

I think they believed her, were simply in denial their child could have done something so horrible. I can’t imagine how they must be feeling right now.

To me, that doesn't matter. They had their daughter back. They should have shut up at that point. Why did they go on the show? To defend themselves and their daughter's honor - purely selfish reasons. By going on the Today show and repeating her story, they stoked fear in the community and made it even harder for victims in the future to be taken seriously. I would have sympathy if they would have kept a low profile and let this play out.

You and your arrogance also have the benefit of being an armchair quarterback.
You're not emotionally involved (and exhausted). You didn't go through 3 long days of no sleep, not knowing where you child was. You have no idea.

Hindsight is 50/50, and you have no idea how you'd react in the same situation.
You couldn't know, and if you say you do, you're lying.
This situation is completely unrelatable.

I imagine they were being advised of what to do/say by family, friends, other influences, etc and they followed someone's lead.

These aren't professional scam artists, they're people who believed that their daughter was missing and may not see her ever again, and when they find out she was lying, they probably didn't know how to proceed from there.

From what I read, the show was booked long before she came home .. do you think they were gonna let them back out without a fight?? Shows like "Today" (who are in DAILY ratings wars with other morning shows) put an immense amount of pressure on these types of families, and make promises they usually don't keep.

It's a situation that her parents weren't mentally prepared for -- they deserve our grace, not your never ending judgements.

They raised her. They have an idea of what she's capable of or at least know more of her history that this didn't come out of left field. Probably some permissive parenting is what led to this situation in the first place. Hopefully this is the wake up call the entire family needs in order to get help or open their eyes.

If you don't think good parents even wind up with kids who are messed up...you have not lived very long.

Those good parents don't fall hook, line and sinker for every dumb thing their kid does. They know what their kids are like. The parents deep in denial aren't good parents.

Look up borderline personality disorder, which often clusters with narcissism. Her behavior here fits, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t selfish and immature. It all tends to cluster.

Personality disorders are not the same as mental illness.

Aren't they a psychiatric diagnosis?

Just because something is curable, does not mean it is not an illness.

They played the 911 call during the press conference.

I did not find it believable. Her voice is as calm as if she was ordering at Starbucks. YMMV.

Besides BPD isn't there one that is delusional? She really sees herself as the star of a film or something.

Lots more rumors, most of the other ones were true, these are pretty unhinged behavior toward ex.

Hope she gets help. Mom is all in on defending her, dad, he sees through her, I think. LE is being very sensitive to parents and respectful of CR, all things considered.
