I’ve been following Heather Robertson for almost a year, and have become used to her dumbbell and kettleball routine; I’ve been quite consistent with following her programs and calendars and am now very used to working out 5x/week. We’re going to a beach rental for 4 weeks where I won’t have access to any weights. What are the best and sanest ways to keep the level of fitness I’ve reached? Bodyweight videos? If anyone has good recommendations I’d appreciate them - thanks! |
There really is a tremendous variety of body weight exercise routines you can do to maintain your fitness. I'm sure there are many others available, buy I downloaded the Nike Training app when everything was shut down due to COVID. It has plenty of equipment-free workout routines. |
Bodyweight activities, and you can pick up inexpensive resistance bands before you go- they also have attachments so you can stick them in a door to increase the options for what muscles you work. The place you're visiting likely has a gym somewhere nearby maybe you can get a one month or drop-in membership. |
Body weight exercises.
Resistance bands TRX is portable |
Push ups
Burpees Tricep dips (can use a chair or table) Jump squats jump lunges Walking lunges & squats With booty bands - can use them for squats and also floor work like glute bridges, clam shells, donkey kicks, fire hydrant kicks. Single leg bulgarian split squat - can also use a table or chair Ab work like planks (all variations), roman twist, flutter kicks etc |
You can buy collapsible weights you fill with water. But I would just get a resistance band. |
Planks, push ups, squats,
It sounds silly but for arms, do the movements without weights but slowly and hold the position that engages your muscles. |
Buy some adjustable dumbbells and take them with you |
Why can't you just bring them with you? Or are you flying. If you're flying I'd stop at the closest Target/Walmart once you arrive at your destination and buy what you need. leave it for the owners and their next set of guests. I'm sure someone along the way will appreciate it! |
If you have an Apple Watch and phone or iPad you can access their strength training workout programs. They have sections for no equipment. |
You can also do water movement workouts. Moving water is hard work! |
This, you can buy a set on Amazon. You can also use them for some upper body moves. Also, add tempo (going slowly and pausing) to moves like squats and lunges to increase intensity without weights. |
Thank you all so much! I’ve already incorporated your suggestions. I was just afraid to lose momentum/discipline as well as strength. |
If it is the discipline/ motivation that you need, maybe try a one month subscription to peloton app. Cheap and tons of body weight exercise, sign up for series and challenges and tick a box every day. It is nice to aim for perfect streak. I am sure other apps do same, mentioning peloton because that is the one I know and the variety of workouts is just amazing |
+1. Identify a minimalist set of key exercises (e.g. squat, deadlift, crunches, pushups, and a pulling exercise). Then figure out the best version for you using bands, bodyweight, or trx. That really should be enough. |
