As someone you are scanning for, i prob eat at places like gastric pubs and restaurants around town and thenplaces Cava, costal flats, burger joints, pizza places, Thai, sushi etc than Chinese food. You will prob find me at wegmans whole foods or farmers market vs Costco. And I also need to pump gas so I will be touching the pumps. I do go to Walgreens and cvs. I also take Uber or Lyft when I don’t feel like driving. Does that help?

You can get as mad as you want at PP, but here's the reality: A dangerous virus has broken out in China and some of those people are traveling here to the states. That is going to make some people nervous. My neighbor is Chinese, was in China and came back today and immediately self-isolated and plans to for the next two weeks. I'm going to venture a guess that she's the exception. Put yourself in someone else's shoes who doesn't know you and where you've been.

My 67 year old mother told me that she felt self conscious bc she is Chinese. Funny thing that she never been to China. I’m not mad. Truth is you don’t know where Asian Americans have been so don’t judge esp since you can’t tell the difference between Asians.

Also I’m just informing you so you have the best info. In my generation we don’t hang out or eat Chinese food every day. Bye you are safe at the pumps bc I don’t touch 85 or 87. My car would spit up that grade.

The best info for what? Ever hear of Maslow? You're not thinking about philosophical concepts like racism when you are concerned about survival. Your frustration is misplaced - you should be angry at those Asians who hid their illness, traveled when they knew they shouldn't, etc. You should also be angry at bad governmental decisions.

Remember it was a CDC employee who told a nurse she could travel when she knew she had been treating Ebola patients in TX and had not been feeling well. Cost Southwest millions and the bridal shop she went to her business. The nurse did the right thing and the government screwed up bigtime. You think that won't happen again? And hasn't?

So ppl are in survival mode and everything goes out the door? We should riot and hunker with the goods pillaged? Hmmmm.

You don’t think ppl fly sick all the time. Oh sorry you only think Asians do.

Exactly my point. People are selfish and fly, work, send their kids to school, etc, when they are sick. So if someone wants to take extra precautions, who are you to say they can't?

All for it. Just to generalize all Asians as Chinese from China.

Can PP even differentiate Chinese from other Asian populations?

Again, it doesn't matter. The reality is, when you are talking about a deadly virus, you're not going to be at your intellectual best. End of.

This is stupid

I assume you'd sit in a room with a bunch of recently returned Chinese nationals?

What are blinds?

And PP won't know. I'm sure every Asian person doesn't know another Asian person's history at a glance either.

- Why each suspected sample has to be sent directly to CDC?
- It takes about 2 days to know the results.
- The fuel cost and staff to fly the samples must be ginormous per test.
- We have been through this before with SARS etc.. Why each coast and
few midlands high tech labs are not able to test?
- Why need to send Marland test all the way to CDC having locally
all the biotech industry we have not one lab that is capable?

Just saying..

Can we not get this thread locked down due to behavior? It’s useful for objective info like numbers, cases being investigated etc.

Sorry, I’m not going to Chinese restaurants or stores. Avoiding Chinese at all costs - they may have friends or relatives visiting from China.

I’m also postponing all travel and avoiding public places best I can.

Every year the flu kills 12-60,000 people in the US. Flu had been going around all winter. Have you been locked in your house since November?

Anybody has anything good to report for a change instead of bickering?

We need some good or at least hopeful news.

Thanks.

US is still sitting at 5 cases despite the fact that those 5 were on flights with hundreds of others, moved thru airports etc. Fingers crossed this continues.

The flu epidemic in the US eased during the week of January 5-11 but remains active, with an estimated 13-18 million cases of flu illnesses documented since the start of the season, a latest report from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said.

The agency also estimates between 6,600 and 17,000 deaths related to influenza since October 1, 2019.

Official Chinese data of flu-caused deaths is much lower, with Chinese CDC data showing that in 2018, there were more than 700,000 cases and 144 deaths.
