Many big companies and their executives pay far fewer taxes than small companies and most Americans.

And your point is…….? I’m even happier when FAFO happens to supposed big shots. The destruction of the My Pillow guy has been beautiful to see. But small FAFO victories can also be celebrated along the way.

That’s wishful thinking. Between gerrymandering, voter suppression, court packing, the dismantling of the federal government and its guardrails, the impunity with which Trump and cronies commit crimes and ignore court rulings, the implementation of Project 2025, and the unwavering support of the 30% of voters who have cult-like devotion, the Republican Party might lose the presidency for a cycle or two (assuming we continue to have actual elections), but then they’ll be restored to power again.

Clearly none of them read mainstream news. It was widely reported that Elon said a few weeks prior to the election, that there would be “belt tightening” under Trump. Was on NBC, Reuters, etc.

Like I said, Hispanic people now need to carry around their US passports. I know he was a green cardholder, so that wouldn't have helped, but ICE has detained US citizens, too. So, you need to carry your passports around, especially if you live in Trump country.

Yeah he was on borrowed time, infliction of injury conviction, should have come up or would have come up when he tried to renew his green card. At which point he would have been detained until his case was heard, at which point he would probably have been deported. Which makes his parents extra stupid for voting for Trump.

Oh well. People balked, when it was said to them after Trump's election, that a green card didn't make them safe. Lol... well now they know. Keep your nose clean, not even a speeding ticket or else.

We have rules that are reasonably clearly spelled out, about what crimes can lose your LPS status. Trump is just arbitrarily removing people, which is not okay. An unreliable and arbitrary government is unAmerican. Which is why everyone is so alarmed.

But this has always been the case green card holders who commit crimes get deported, This guys crime was violent but I know a guy who got went to renew his green card, forgot that he had a writing bad check charge, and was detained at the federal immigration detention center in Va., for a year while waiting for his case to be heard. Thanks to a good pro-bono lawyer he was cleared, but it was close.

I have another friend, green card holder, who 10 years ago was stopped at Dulles, he was accused of being a convicted and deported drug kingpin, trying to enter illegally. His identity had been stolen, at some point and became and assumed alias of the felon. He spent thousands on lawyers fees trying to clear it all up and was eventually cleared.

In his case, that night after hours of questioning, he at least was released pending a hearing. But under Trump this is the kind of person who’d be disappeared no questions asked. That’s scary.

Yes what Trump is doing is awful, but any green card holders who didn’t know that they could be detained and deported even for non-violent crimes are at the FAFO stage.

The difference now is these people could have flown under the radar for a while but now he’s tracking them down.

But they get convicted and serve time before they are deported. First I ever knew that was in the late 80s, a woman who had burned her child with an iron got 7 years and was to be deported after she served her prison sentence. Plus, that would also allow for any appeals to be run, so people who were wrongfully convicted would still have a chance.

In major cases that was happening but I spent time doing pro-bono work in a detention facility and the people we worked with weren’t violent offenders, they often hadn’t served time, the detention center was their first time behind bars in an orange jumpsuit, but had criminal records, and went about their lives as normal until green card renewal time.

The overwhelming majority of migrants and people they are detaining are peaceful, non-violent folks just trying to feed their families.

Despite everything, Márquez Duany doesn’t blame Trump. “There are probably too many people here,” he says. “I understand trying to get rid of those who shouldn’t be here. But Trump should look at each individual case.

This Vermont farmer is unhappy that the immigrants who did all the work on his farm have left/gotten deported due to Trump. Apparently American citizens don’t want to get up at 4 am to milk cows for 12 hour days 6 days a week.

https://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/story/life/2025/04/25/farmworker-arrests-put-future-of-dairy-farming-in-vermont-into-
question/83235334007/

Fifth generation dairy farmer Dustin Machia said Wednesday the arrests of eight farmworkers by Border Patrol agents on Monday in Berkshire sent shockwaves through Vermont's tightknit dairy farming community. The reason is simple: Vermont dairy farms can't survive without migrant workers.

"I'm very worried about it," Machia said of the arrests. "It's not sustainable to not have (migrant farmworkers). Farming would be very bleak and the cost would skyrocket in the grocery store, because you can't pay an American to do (this) job any more. Americans just don't want to do this job. Without the foreign labor, it's just not sustainable."

Machia & Sons in Sheldon employs 11 migrant farmworkers to milk about 1,400 cows on two farms. The work is dirty, dangerous and unrelenting.
