"John fell or was pulled from the staircase, unconscious, and the kids allegedly proceeded to kick and stomp on him. “He doesn't remember anything after that first punch,” Jane said.
What the couple has pieced together from the blood trail in the alley, John’s injuries and police discussions is that John was knocked out by the first punch, thrown down the rest of the stairs and "stomped out" as the police told them — kicked in the body and face repeatedly. A neighbor’s camera footage shows the kids leaving the alley shortly after, “Strolling with no sense of urgency or fear, though John was unconscious and bleeding badly a few feet behind them,” Jane said." https://www.petworthnews.org/blog/assault-decatur |
| Maybe at some point our government will start to care about crime? Janesse of course has nothing to say about this... |
|
Boy, John sounds like a real asshole...
“John went out and adjusted the hoop for them as he often does as a kindness, and got out the basketballs we keep on hand,” Jane said. “He asked them to be sure to stop playing at dark so he could get our daughter to bed without noise. At 9:30 they were still playing, so when my daughter complained about the noise, John went out to ask them to stop.” |
| Horrible. |

Something tells me there is more to this story than has been portrayed.
Hoping the homeowner heals quickly and does not replace the basketball hoop. Unfortunately we do not live in a time that makes alley play a good idea for kids or anyone else, mainly with how frequent cars speed down our alleys with no regard for living things. |
What are you suggesting was left out? It was a horrible crime against what sounds like a very nice man-I hope you’re not blaming the victim. |
| there was a basketball hoop in our alley once. it created all kinds of problems. eventually, thankfully, it was taken down. |
Pretty sure pp was blaming the victim. |
Truth. I’d love to hear more about the little kid pushing a baby stroller. What’s the story behind that? |
definitely blaming the victim. those kids probably just needed a hug from some violence interrupters. |
Seems pretty clear these kids have terrible parents. |
What?! Nooo they’re little misunderstood angels. |
| I’ll admit I’m a shitty person, but if this happens to someone I cared about, I’d feel hard-pressed to not leave the hoop up, wait for them to return, and break some knees with a crow bar, Ghoulily style. |
And what does that “something” tell you that could possibly justify this crime? Do you even realize how stupid you sound? |
No kidding. As someone who had a basketball hoop behind their house, I can tell you that if you are looking for "more to this story" then focus on the lack of consideration and poor raising of the teens who beat the homeowner. Unfortunately, when we had a hoop, we had some neighbors who thought that pounding the basketball in the alley at midnight on a weeknight was entirely acceptable community behavior. (I guess when you don't have a job and sit on the porch smoking dope all day, then the idea that other folks might need to get up and go to work/school is not something that would occur to you.). There is no SOMETHING other than these kids have had no home training whatsoever. |
