There needs to be a discussion. How is this not even a concern to some.

I see at least five teacher trainees in Navy's future

That’s good. This problem is going to fade when the remnants of the last administration go away. For a few parents still pining for Jon is only in the upper classes and should be gone in a couple years. And if all the teachers are leaving that want Jon back so much and we get new teachers that don’t even know him… then Navy will be great! I look forward to it and encourage the new principal to just hang in there. The majority of us parents have your back.

Also, if anyone honestly thinks your home prices are tied to the teachers at Navy then you may just be the dumbest person on the planet.

+1. Too funny. Navy has great scores, low farm.

I think a staff meeting is more important than a parent meeting. Parents (like whoever drafted that email) do not represent the entire staff. Not one of those issues in the email was actually a staff concern.

I knew the issues raised in that email were a smokescreen for the real issue: teachers are unhappy with the new admin. So like I stated earlier, they should meet with their boss to discuss. And they should not talk about any of it with parents.

The problem is some of the disgruntled teachers spoke poorly about the principal to certain parents, who have taken it upon themselves to speak up on behalf of the teachers. Very odd. Maybe they think it’s going to curry then favor somehow but it won’t. It will just make them look batsh*t.

And now the parents look bat sh=t because of this thread bashing teachers....it's all so gross.

Let’s take a look at the teacher blogs that are bashing students. Maybe it’s time to post those screenshots?

“It’s all so gross”? You talk like a 13 girl trying to be in the cool clique.

You talk like the parent who maybe started all this. I guess being part of the cool clique didn't work out for you.

Oh my goooosh! You are just sooooo gross!

LOL!!!!! Best post of the day!

100% this! The sooner Navy turns over its staff, now the better.

The only ones who look bad are the ones involved in trying to make up bogus safety concerns regarding Principal Simms Smith’s handling of events. We still have yet to hear one legitimate reason why teachers don’t care for the new principal. For the parents who are acting as unions reps now for the teachers, what say you? Why do the teachers not like Simms Smith management style? How does it “exacerbate” their issues? Please elaborate.

Well said. Let’s see if one anti-Simms Smith person can articulate what management style of his that warrants quitting your job or getting him fired. We anxiously wait for your response on pins and needles. I’m sure it will be so eye opening.

+1 Still waiting. Of course now we hear crickets…

I can tell you why as an outsider. Because many of them were coasting under Jon. Jon was very lax. Teachers were allowed to take off random Fridays, or the days leading up to holidays, etc. I’m sure the new principal possibly has stated there must be a valid reason or you can’t take the day off. Please understand why he may be doing that - there is a sub shortage. If 7 teachers take the same Friday off and they can’t get subs, then the kids are stuck being divided up among existing classes. That’s not good for anyone. It’s also possible he may have said you can’t take the day off unless you have a prearranged sub. It’s actually very common to do this in other schools.

Another reason (again a guess) some of the teachers are upset is because they weren’t allowed to departmentalize the way they wanted. Jon would let each team figure it out and do what they wanted. Honestly departmentalization is not best practice for the younger grades but it does make things easier for a teacher. But the reality is for younger grades, 4th and below (possibly even 5th), each teacher needs to be teaching their own Language Arts. There’s a new curriculum now and best practice is that the kids get 75-90 min daily of LA. When you switch classes and there’s only one LA teacher, LA is shortchanged to only 60 minutes per class. Again, not best practice.

Any time a school in Fcps (or other districts) gets a new principal, lots of teachers leave because people can’t deal with change. It’s not a big deal and literally happens each year at various schools. No reason to freak out about it.

+1 this exactly. Teachers leaving under a new principal is nothing new under the sun. 7 staff members really is nothing in the grand scheme of things. Some may not even be classroom teachers.

1. How did an email spiral into teacher bashing?! That’s disgusting and unnecessary. On the flip side, I’m going to get every teacher a shirt that says “I’m just here for the Starbucks and muffins”. Thanks for the idea.
2. I highly encourage you to walk a mile in the teachers’ shoes and go sub for a week before you pass judgement.
3. Shame on you for calling out a teacher by name. Why not share your name too?
4. The email was from another parent NOT a teacher.
5. When you resort to name calling, you’ve already lost the argument and you sound ignorant.
6. You can like the principal and he can be a great guy, but that doesn’t make him good at his job.
7. We are NOT a title 1 school nor a middle school nor a high school.
8. How does me forwarding an email make me unsuitable to teach kids? I’m not there to spy. The hours align with my kids and I enjoy it. At the end of the day, I’m a parent at Navy and I’m going to do what is in the best interest of my kids.

** Teachers, I’m genuinely sorry for the backlash this has caused.**

Yes, #5 is so true. See the first line of your own response where you did exactly just that. LOL. Next. You’re certainly not very bright are you? We definitely don’t want you subbing at Navy anymore.

+1 but the behavior and comments in this thread wow-it's not good for Navy.

Navy will be totally fine. It’s important to have difficult conversations. It’s because ppl care about the school that they speak passionately about the community. No single person represents everyone’s viewpoint and it was important for ppl to be heard.

It's not your decision whether or not she subs. My kid had her as a sub before and liked her. Are you going to go in and sub instead? There is a sub shortage.

My guess is Amos doesn’t want her anymore now that he knows she forwarded that email.
