Why aren't we talking about Novak Djokovic

Women’s tennis is a joke . Lol. Serena is not the goat.

That's a bunch of junk. You tried to say previously that people are prejudiced against the Djoker because he's Serbian when it's actually because he's a crappy person. There is someone who shows up at all the tennis forums and says that the things we don't like about his personality are Serbian traits and I call bs on that.

Things Djoker has done that Fed has never done:
withdraw from many matches when losing (see video of Andy Roddick mocking the Djoker for all his excuses for pulling out)
hit an official with a ball hit in anger
tell the press many times that the women players aren't as good and don't deserve equal pay
rip his shirt off on the court and over celebrate when he wins
have family who proclaim to the press that Fed should retire (10 years ago) and pronouncing the "king is dead"
say very stupid things related to covid and covid vaccines
have a good friend (Ana Ivanovic) participate in a friendly game of doubles at a fan fest and humiliate and mock her the entire time over her poor serve

I can go on.

I'm an American who is very bright and knowledgeable about tennis. It's true that the usta destroyed American tennis and thanks to Patrick McEnroe player development was a joke. Look back a decade ago or so and you see the American tennis establishment pushing male players like Mardy Fish, Ryan Harrison, John Isner. See any similarities? Did you know the usta training camps were loaded with kids of former American players? It was a very corrupt system that might be better now.

What you say about setting up Russian villains is kind of bs. Everyone preferred Evert over Navratilova but that was less about where Navratilova was from. Looks were what everyone cared about back then. People loved Zereyev in this country until the stories got out about him being abusive to women. People in American loved Safin, Graff, Boris Becker too. Federer and Sampras were gods at the game and good looking enough and smart enough to avoid controversies. How many times have you seen Fed break a racquet or scream at an official? Fed is worshipped world wide for a reason.

I agree. What do you think about Wimbledon scheduling Medveded in such a crappy manner? On Talk Tennis, many agree it was done in purpose to give Federer a chance to advance. A pointless chance tbh.

Medveded is boring and doesn't generate fan interest because of his personality. It isn't because of his nationality. People will tune in to watch Roger no matter what even if he is losing. I hated watching tennis when Ivan Lendl dominated because he had no personality and was boring.

This is so true. He's been an ass this whole time and there were lots of questions about how he got to the level he did when he did. He had some magic ability to not break down after lots of matches when before he was ridiculed for always backing out of matches. He is untrustworthy and fake.

Do you think that him being a Serb has something to do with your dislike of him?

NP. My dislike for him is because while he is an amazing tennis player, he is a below average human being. He is disrespectful and childish. He is also hypocritical and sexist. He is elitist and prioritizes the top of the ATP rankings and does not care much for the journeyman players. In essence, he is a selfish and egotistical human being. Yes, I respect his tennis skill, but I don't think he is a good ambassador for the sport, I don't think he is a hero or role model. Some star athletes are better than others at that. I prefer to support and cheer for respectable and honorable star athletes. Both Federer and Nadal (among many others) are in this category. Djokovic (and a handful of others) are not.

Which others ones do you think are not?

Not good sportsman? Nick Kyrios, Bernard Tomic, Benoit Paire runs hot and cold, but frequently is an a$$. Looking at the top of the current rankings, Daniel Medvedev (World #2) is not a nice person. Fabio Fognini has a horrible temper and is often rude to officials and linesmen. Andy Murray is one who can be extremely nice and extremely mean and nasty. Recently retired Mikhael Youzhney had a vicious temper. Former world #1 Lleyton Hewitt was known to be extremely mean to tournament staff and media. Quite a few ATP players who are just not nice people as a general rule.

Which ones are nice? Other than Roger?

There are many more nice guys than the bad apples. Federer is one of the nicest guys on tour. Stan Wawrinka, Jack Sock (true good sportsmanship, look for the match where he convince Lleyton Hewitt to challenge a point against him), Rafa Nadal, the Bryan brothers, Grigor Dimitrov, Diego Schwartzman, as another PP mentioned earlier Juan Martin del Potro, Sam Querrey, John Isner, many of the doubles players. Since I mentioned recently retired Youzhny on the bad apple list, I'll mention recently retired Alexandr "Dog" Dolgopolov. He was widely reputed to be an amazingly nice guy.

Ok, I can't read anything past Jack Sock! You clearly, very clearly know nothing about tennis and the tennis players! Jack fracking Sock! He is an abusive POS! Did you ever watch him play, in real life?
He might give points, but what a douche bag during matches.

People who know a lot about tennis know Sock isn't such a good guy but he cleaned up his act some when he started getting air time. What happened to him?

Sock is garbage. Can’t believe someone above said he’s a good guy, acts like a total cock on court

Isn't it funny that to you and maybe others, it has nothing to do with the ethnicity of "others" but then you go on to tell us how the nicest, best players are....from the Western countries? Your example, apart from Safin, do not jive with your "non-bias."

It used to be that a lot of grand slam tennis was shown on the major networks, or at least on ESPN, but now you really have to seek it out to watch. And with no major American male players right now, I can see how a lot of the American public is not familiar with the current top players, even Novak. Just a different time than when Sampras/Agassi/Roddick were too players.

Roddick lol. The one slam wonder. American tennis has not been relevant since the 90s.

PP here- not disagreeing, but he was at least contending for a while and was someone the US media could promote. They really don’t have anyone like that now-maybe Tiafoe will get there eventually.

Tiafoe could if he had someone managing every single aspect of his life. Does he have someone like that? How much is USTA willing to pay to get him to a top ranking? Cause we are talking nanny kind of level helicopter.

This thread is pretty funny! Someone is calling Djokovic out and saying Roddick is a great decent guy! Yes, pp, we really believe you have no bias against Djokovic but are truly just finding the U.S. players to be nice guys! Citing Roddick as one of them!

Yeah US players are the biggest pricks on the tour and I’m American. They all are bad and act arrogant maybe with the exception of Isner who has his own share of issues

So, it is ok for Wimbledon officials to rig the draw bcs a player is boring? To put no 2 seed on the backcourt over and over again? You must be one of the nightmare sports' parents! Let's do what I like and play the fun kids, even if the boring kid will win over and over and over again!

He should be banned from competition.

Well Aga Radwanska was voted fan favorite for years, and she’s polish. Halep and Kvitova have always been popular too (maybe not with Americans but Americans tend to be rather nationalistic when it comes to fandom). In fact most of the Eastern European WTA players (and top WTA players in general) seem like nice people. Djokavic is just a jerk and always has been.

Novak was not referring to Simone Biles at all. Reuters reported the quote of his correctly, which was about how he deals with pressure, he even says on the court. "Pressure is a privilege" is what he says, in regard to his own chasing goals. He was asked about the pressure he is under.
