No. They have magnet programs embedded in different schools. The top three in demand are Blair, Richard Montgomery, and Poolesville. But there are many more.

RM has become a troubled school lately

Maybe. But, honestly, all of MCPS has become ‘troubled’. Discipline is an issue in every cluster. I don’t see RM as any worse or better with respect to ‘school environment’ and ‘school safety’ than any other MCPS high school. Unfortunately, they all kind of stink. Teachers and staff are stretched too thin. Kids behavior is atrocious.

oh, but W schools don't have all those poor kids that cause trouble. RM has 23% FARMs, and like 40% combined black and hispanic kids . To some, that's too many.

I'm very happy that my RMIB kid attends school outside the Bethesda/Potomac bubble. He feels comfortable there.

My sentiments as well. I think they're better prepared for real life...

Yes, my kid met a diverse group of students, unlike those who attend segregated schools, and at least nobody is running around in blackface or handing out N*word cards like at the W's.

Someone really has grudge against "the W's".

Into nurturing the next generation of protesters are we? 2016, 2018, 2022 (they skipped walking out in 2020 due to covid..)

without a generation of protestors we wouldn't have equal rights for women, or nonwhite people. A lot of social protests for pgress are organized and started by young people. My kids aren't like this, but thankfully, there are many who are. Othewrise, my biracial kids probably wouldn't exist as many parts of the US forbade marriage between white and nonwhite. Maybe you would like for that to still be the case.

My kid was recently recognized by a candidate for BoE after testifying so many times! Youthful protest is needed; we get too jaded as we age.

Absolutely! And proud of it, and proud of all the progress we've made as a country through nonviolent protests.

Seems like there's more reason than ever now with the illegitimate Sharia High Court imposing their religious values on everyone.

I have a kid at RMIB and I have no idea what all these posters are talking about. Mob protests? What?
I guess I would not be surprised if there were some protests. I remember protesting in HS — nules, English only laws, probably dress codes, whatever. Isn’t that what teens do? I’m not aware of any protests at RM so I guess my teen didn’t even bother to mention them. She seems pretty occupied with her school work and her extacurriculars.
People on this site often have such weird filters where they hyperfocus on one thing. A protest at a Hs? They must be all for SJW mob rule! Nope.

Me too! No idea what they're going on about but if my kid were to protest, I'd be supportive. There's a lot to be upset about these days.

They had a few walk outs over things like covid measures and school shootings.. things the admin were supportive of. I think some people don't want young people to be activitists. These people are usually conservatives who don't want any change in our society, other than kicking out them illegals.

Especially the far-right astroturfers that post the fiction to support their extreme political agenda. Fortunately, moco residents don't buy the CRT nonsense like VA residents...
