It is only a handful of girls from each state

Last year at u-14 boys, there were about 50 across the whole region at camp. The camp was roughly twice a day practice/scrimmage sessions.

MD did well numbers wise for the boys to East Regional ID camp. Not so much for the girls

It's just a handful from each state - at least based on last year as I haven't seen the full list for this year yet.

MD selections are a bit puzzling. There are a few on some of the age group lists that definitely were not the best players in their age group. Not sure what selections are based on but there definitely seem to be some politics at play.

Yes, definitely politics as with a lot in youth soccer! ODP coaches make recommendations to the East Region Staff and then East Region look at those kids.

MD selects heavily from those who attend their summer camp and Europe trips. Last couple years have made no sense. One of the reasons MD only gets a handful of kids to regional team each year. Usually a big centerback or defender and an overdribbling or showy midfielder.

it's selective--usually no more than 3-4 per team who was at the qualifying event--some might have more, some might have less.

Anybody who says otherwise has no idea what they are talking about.

In the U12 age group, is this a fair representation of the talent in MD and in the region?

I know it drops after in two years but curious about the U12 age group.

By the time you get to East Region (not the ID camp but the actual East Region selection), any politiking is out the window as your local state really doesn't have any say in who gets picked...at that point the college coaches choose who they want on their teams for the region.

I am talking about the MD list selected for the East Region camp. Are the best players from BSC, Celtic and any other clubs playing ODP at this age? I know it will not capture 100% but seeing if it captures anywhere near 65% - 75% of the top players in MD below U12.

The state does have say. They recommend players. The east region staff then watches those players.

And this is BS. They still have a say.

Nope not how it works. At the east region ID camp the coaches who will coach at the east region event select who they want after scouting the games. Many of them are college coaches with zero affiliation to a state ODP program. They simply want the best players- they don’t care what state they are from. You might get to the ID camp due to state politics but you won’t get out of the camp (to the east region team) due to politics …it kind of stops at the ID camp
Selection…
