ODP East Regional ID session

Congrats. Here's a tip for you if you are traveling. Don't stay in downtown Wilmington. It's a shithole. If you have to stay there, there are a few hotels on their little riverwalk/ballpark area which are OK. Stay south of there if at all possible even if it's just off route 1.

she might have been dinged for something small - avoiding using her left foot, being over-reliant on her speed, just doing 1 thing well but not versatile... you will never know because they don't give much individual feedback. Coaches just aren't that helpful with ODP, too many kids to keep track of that.

Thanks! Any tips on why happens during camp, what to expect?

ECNL. She scored or assisted with 70% of the goals for the team and I can’t give her a reason why she wasn’t ID.

She was making the other players look bad.

This is a split camp, so there will just be players from the states that were in the tournament. That said, you can probably expect about 25 players per age group to be selected for the regional pool. The remaining players will come from the (north) Region 1 ID camp. They used to all come together for a 5 day overnight camp. This is just a two day, quick in and out, so not exactly sure how they will do it. I would bet it's going to be more scrimmaging than normal.

Thanks, thank makes sense. From looking at the East Regional pool from previous years, the sizes vary a lot. Some age groups had 80! This year they are saying 36 per age group. Is that a covid thing?

Only 36 total in a region pool would be small. The pool size usually decreases with age though. They take a certain amount of each general position, so if your pool is attacker heavy then a defender might have a better shot of getting through or vice versa. I would tell your player to go with where the coaches think they should be and not stuck to a certain position. They will make a spot for a good player even if it's not the one they necessarily play on their club team.

This is exactly why moving positions when you are young is so important. Being able to have a grasp of how all positions are played (including keeper) benefits the kid so much. You never know when another coach might see your child doing something completely different than your last coach. If your kid has technical ability and an idea of how that position is played. then a good coach will teach them how to succeed at that position.

Care to share which league he/she plays in? ECNL, MLS-next, NCSL, ODSL, CCL, etc...

ECNL. She scored or assisted with 70% of the goals for the team and I can’t give her a reason why she wasn’t ID.

She was making the other players look bad.

Funny but true. Maybe they got the email wrong and since VA didn’t publish their nomination one may never know.

Doesn't the ECNL have their own ID camps and tournaments? Just wondering why a member of a full ECNL club would do ODP?

Because they can.

Does anyone know anything about invitations yet? Have they gone out? If my DS hasn't gotten one yet does that mean he has a slim chance of being invited?

Here's your Virginia girls invitees. The don't have the boys posted.

Interesting the numbers of players selected is different per age group. 2008G seems to have a lot of talent to consider.

That's normally how it is in ODP. The pools shrink with age from district on up.

Remember this is the USA and girl travel soccer. Assists are not important only goals are important. This is why you should never pass!
