Now that most kids have places deposits, will the waitlists move really quickly? At some point do schools let you know they are filled and taking no more from the WL or do they just leave you wondering?

Most schools will send out an email when they are sure they'll no longer take people from the waitlist. (That could be any time from this week to August.)

Today is the deposit deadline for Ivies. I would expect waitlist movement to begin any time this week, though it's impossible to guess how much movement there will be.

I think it depends on the school. Monitor the school’s social media. Dean J from UVA has been posting on Instagram and College Confidential that UVA will likely not go to the WL this year.

She said on instagram that they made a few offers to one of the programs. On College Confidential she said "we probably won't see much."

Difficult to gauge how much movement any particular school will have this year. Time will tell.

I don't know that they have a "top."

If they unexpectantly lose a economics major who is one race or gender, they might try to replace that person. But I don't think they throw everyone onto one list and proceed down it in order.
