No question this league is great at U11 and U12. Best competition and travel schedule should reasonable. U13 and above, Arlington and Loudoun second teams should provide good depth to the league. Those are big clubs and they should compete well just as Strikers second teams do now. Beach, SOCA,and Vienna (all first teams) should be the favorites though. Any of those three teams would fit right in GAL if they chose to join. Why don't they join? Maybe because GAL isn't the draw that DA was and the competition is fine closer to home. They aren't interested. If I am a Metro parent, I'd much rather play ECNL-RL and be upper middle of the pack rather than have a much worse travel schedule to finish at the bottom of GAL. If I am an FCV parent I probably don't have good options. I already think I am too good for GAL, but ECNL won't have me. I don't know the solution, but I'd be confused that there are good clubs and competition all around me, and yet I found myself in a league with exactly one other local team. |
Think SOCA is effectively a second team, with Skyline being the first team or am I misunderstanding? |
| that is correct. Skyline is the top team. |
What league does Skyline play in? Is the boys second team in ECNL? I'm confused |
Skyline currently plays in CCL. Next year the boys are in ECNL (top league) and the girls in GA. SOCA is in ECNL-R (not sure whetner this boys, girls or both - I'm guessing both). My understanding - which may be incorrect - is that Skyline was intended to be a bit like Richmond United and pull in all the best talent from clubs in the Charlottesville area - but in practice it just ends up being SOCA's top team plus one or two kids - and up until this year even entered leagues under the name "SOCA Elite". |
