Herndon Youth Soccer vs. Total Futbol

Anonymous
Last night, HYS presented their side of the story versus Total Futbol’s version. Were any questions left unanswered?
Do you have any comments about the meeting?

Here are mine:

-Hiring more females as coaches or placing them on the board does not give the girls’ teams better representation.
-Total Futbol ended up coaching so many HYS girl teams because they filled a void. Girls teams were left without coaches, or were offered underqualified ones.
-Total Futbol teams have offered stronger players a path to being recruited by colleges. Their teams have better results and compete in more prestigious tournaments.
-My DD started playing for TF fairly recently, when her HYS coaches left for personal reasons. She was perfectly happy with them, but now she has developed into a much stronger player, and has been contacted by college coaches without any effort from our part.
-Could the older teams be grandfathered in?
-Most of the older TF teams will follow their coaches. The oldes players can probably drive themselves, so distance will not be a major factor.
-TF also gave my DD the opportunity to play on older TF teams. She can also practice with girls who are in her same grade.
-This will not sound nice, but having myself experience in Latin America, girls soccer has not been supported. Only recently have girls programs received some support. Many of the HYS coaches come from this background. When they were kids, barely any girls played soccer. There were hardly any organized programs for them. Were these coaches interested in supporting the girls on HYS teams? Did Total Futbol fill in that void? If so, why punish the girls with a change in coaches?

I understand HYS has good intentions, and they have been working hard, but it seems they are trying to emulate many of TF’s positive aspects. Why fix TF if it ain’t broke?

Same here—was HYS using TF coaches but has decided that I no longer subcontract to them?

I don't follow. What happened to the HYS and TF partnership?

Yes and HYS wants to retain the coaches, but drop TF from the equation...and it’s turning ugly.

Yes, can someone explain the relationship with HYS, Total Futbol, Nadr, and McLean and all the crap that happened and conflicts of interest going on? I've only heard bits here and there.

Wasn’t part of the meeting but from what I’ve heard they want HYS coaches to be HYS coaches. No more using TF contract coaches. The TF coaches coach at other clubs. For example Nadir is a McLean coach. Is it not possible for coaches to be head coaches at 2 different clubs? Is that why we need TF to make this happen? I don’t imagine given one option Nadir would give up his ECNL teams at McLean to come over and coach CCL HYS teams. And the parents of the girls on Nadia’s teams like him and don’t want to lose him? Is this this issue?

In other words Herndon wants to take the profit for TF out of the equation.

That's the main point. Some other side points, such as the HYS board not having much/any rep from the girls program, whether or not GA was an option for HYS and HYS leadership decided not to without much input (HYS disputes), disagreement on the decision to partner with Arlington and Metro on the girls side, and someone (I guess a parent, but don't know) allegedly accosting or threatening a board member.

so is the "partnership" with Arlington and Metro true? I imagine there would be a much better path to MU with location and the fact that Arlington is likely going to be stacked and not giving a whole lot of opportunities to PT players?

MU is a joke and HYS fields teams that would likely beat MU at every age group. MYS would be a good partner but I imagine that there are conflicts. Is FCV an option? What about Loudoun?

Why does Herndon need to partner with any club? That part seems to be separate from the desire to cut costs by hitting dedicated coaches.

McLean is partnering with SYC. That ship has sailed. I think HYS partnerships are just rumor right now.

No - they’ve been announced and emailed to parents.
