Diversity, equity, inclusion but not for Jews?

We get it. You’ll always pat us on the head and say “not your time.”

Meanwhile, we’ve been dealing with rising anti-Semitism for years and haven’t been included in the left’s approved minority groups for allyship.

Jews haven’t been approved for those groups since the civil rights marches.

This thread isn’t about you— it’s about Jews.

It’s never about Jews. The conversation immediately has to shift to “But [other minority group]! But Palestine!” No one will have a conversation about antisemitism until Jewish blood is actually dripping from the walls. Then it’s five minutes before the conversation shifts back again.

Sooooo similar to how this thread was made while Asian hate crimes are on the rise with the Atlanta shooting happening this week (literal blood in the walls) but the OP thought it was fine to shift the focus to discuss...

Exactly. Couldn’t even bury the dead until she redirected the convo

The same damn story every time we bring it up.

Just admit it — you don’t have time to care about us. Doesn’t matter when it is.

What is it exactly that you are asking for? Jews are the wealthiest minority group in the US. Nearly 50% of the population are considered high income. They have the largest representation in higher education and traditionally high income professional fields (law, medicine, etc) than any other ethnic group in the US. Jews are overwhelmingly white and benefit from white privilege just as their Anglo US counterparts. Jews are also overrepresented in the US government and business.

Meanwhile, AA and Hispanic populations are majority below poverty. High school graduation rates are abysmal, as is representation in professional careers. Both groups have high rates of teen pregnancy, violence in communities and are by and large priced out of neighborhoods with access to excellent public education. Both represent the largest groups in the US prison population and most likely to suffer at the hands of police brutality. Representation in government for either group does not match the percentage of US population. This is the reality NOW for these groups - not 2000 years ago, 500 years ago, or even 80 years ago. It is now.

So yeah, the white privilege of the Jewish population is real. Is there anti-semitism? Yes, but trying to equate the current status of the Jewish population in the US to other marginalized groups is tone deaf.

As a fellow Jew, OP is taking this in the wrong direction. Asians and Jews are in the same boat here. No one believes we face racism, or say we should stop complaining. We try to raise the alarm but until we’re murdered no one cares. Then everyone cares for one day, and goes back to not caring.

Asians and Jews should be raising each other up in times like these.

The point isn’t about who has it worse nor is it to take away the very real anti-Asian and broader racist activities happening. It’s highlighting that despite the fact that Antisemitism makes up, per capita, a large percentage of hat crimes and that folks in Charlottesville and at the Capitol were spewing direct antisemitism rhetoric (“6 million wasn’t enough”) folks think that because Jews appear “better off,” antisemitism isn’t worthy of discussion. That’s the problem.

Whiniest thread ever and insanely tone deaf after the Atlanta murders.

Actually, OP created this thread to complain her CEO didn’t acknowledge antisemitism in an email immediately after Asian hate crimes!!! Now it’s antisemitic to condemn hate crimes against Asians...seriously.

Please let us know when it’s ok to care about anti-Semitism. We’ll expect your allyship then.

Yep! And this thread only proves the point.

This thread proves that hijacking the discussion of the slaughter of Asian women to say “what about me?” is in poor taste.

This. No one on this thread is saying there is no problem with anti-semitism in the US, but the fact is that there is no other minority that can easily pass as white just by changing names or attire and also hold on to a significant portion of power in this country. If asked to group Jews between white and minority in this country, I'm sure most (all?) non-Jewish minority people will group Jews in with white.

Frankly I’d be more concerned about how my company actually treats people than whether they issue a performative statement of condemnation or support after yet another of the seemingly endless tragedies and acts of violence we see in this country every week.

Tell us when it’s ok to fight anti-semitism.

Also, where was the discussion after the Tree of Life shooting?

And yet we face a level of hate that is only rising. Anti-Semitic hate crimes formed the majority of hate crimes against religion in 2019.
