I have no horse in this race as I am white (female) but it’s interesting to watch how Jewish threads pop up here after every significant conversation about race. I remember one after the BLM events. And then someone mentioned whataboutism. Makes me wonder.
We get it. You’ll always pat us on the head and say “not your time.” Meanwhile, we’ve been dealing with rising anti-Semitism for years and haven’t been included in the left’s approved minority groups for allyship.
Jews haven’t been approved for those groups since the civil rights marches.
What is it exactly that you are asking for? Jews are the wealthiest minority group in the US. Nearly 50% of the population are considered high income. They have the largest representation in higher education and traditionally high income professional fields (law, medicine, etc) than any other ethnic group in the US. Jews are overwhelmingly white and benefit from white privilege just as their Anglo US counterparts. Jews are also overrepresented in the US government and business. Meanwhile, AA and Hispanic populations are majority below poverty. High school graduation rates are abysmal, as is representation in professional careers. Both groups have high rates of teen pregnancy, violence in communities and are by and large priced out of neighborhoods with access to excellent public education. Both represent the largest groups in the US prison population and most likely to suffer at the hands of police brutality. Representation in government for either group does not match the percentage of US population. This is the reality NOW for these groups - not 2000 years ago, 500 years ago, or even 80 years ago. It is now. So yeah, the white privilege of the Jewish population is real. Is there anti-semitism? Yes, but trying to equate the current status of the Jewish population in the US to other marginalized groups is tone deaf.
This. No one on this thread is saying there is no problem with anti-semitism in the US, but the fact is that there is no other minority that can easily pass as white just by changing names or attire and also hold on to a significant portion of power in this country. If asked to group Jews between white and minority in this country, I'm sure most (all?) non-Jewish minority people will group Jews in with white.
