I'm not PP but it's The Virginian u9. I'd actually really like to see them play BSC u9. They are playing Potomac/SAC up a year u10, top division, and undefeated heading into the final, with two lopsided shutouts.

Who are you referring to playing up a year? Bsc top team is not playing and syc u9 is playing at their normal year.

BSC U9 top team playing up a year in aidfferent tournament this weekend (SAC/Potomac), while SYC U9 top team playing in the Virginian on age.

Well, good sportsmanship would halt at a certain number knowing there is no way the other team would ever catch up and win. Coach can use this opportunity to do keep away and not try to score and practice on foot work and etc.

Well, good sportsmanship would halt at a certain number knowing there is no way the other team would ever catch up and win. Coach can use this opportunity to do keep away and not try to score and practice on foot work and etc.

True but depending on the others teams score, 7 is low. It's also about total points for and against as a tally. Its still a tournament.

Why are you guys acting like BSC U9 is so great because they are playing up a year. They are the second best team in the area no doubt but these two teams already played each other and I think SYC got to double digit goals against them.

Nope. It was BSC 2nd team. 1st team was playing up a year top division.

As a coach, we have banged out a team 17-0 and I would not stop pressing the other team (U12) We showed the team total respect until the final whistle and also let them know the kids should be playing in a more appropriate level . I love nothing more than giving a bunch of spoilt rich kids a good ole fashioned a$$ whooping let them know the Potomac School education is meaningless on the soccer field against a bunch of blue collar kids that will outwork them all day long ROFL.

Here’s a post I wrote about the one experience with the SYC U-9 boys team we had this fall — in short, this behavior isn’t surprising. And for the record, we lost to Bethesda by far more than the game we lost to SYC, so the post below wasn’t motivated by being thoroughly beaten.

I was impressed by the SYC players' physicality -- they clearly had been drilled on how to use their arms/bodies to push the other players away. There were some flagrant fouls, but I attribute that to the boys just not putting into practice correctly what they've been taught -- not to malice or bad sportsmanship.

Whether those types of skills -- blocking and pushing and the rougher physical aspects of the game -- are whether the focus should be at U-little or not, I can't say. They don't seem like particularly technical skills to learn, and I'd rather my boys learn ball control and positioning/passing skills, but I certainly can't argue that getting those rougher skills down early doesn't yield results: SYC beat us and every other team pretty handily.

We've lost to better teams, and we've lost to worst teams, and I don't take it too seriously with U-littles. However, I must add that the U9 coach for SYC was the most obnoxious coach I've ever seen in years of having my children play U-little. Constant, non-stop berating of his players for The. Entire. Game. I mean, his team was winning by 5 goals and they're playing well (obviously) but literally the entire game, the SYC coach was angrily screaming at his players, full-throated bloviating yelling and screaming about any single little lost 50-50 ball, or any successful move or passing by the other team.

I have never in my life seen such an angry, unpleasant coach for such little kids. Again, he wasn't yelling at the ref or at the other team ... he was berating his own (very successful) players for any little perceived mistake. It was embarrassing and borderline abusive, in my opinion.

It's a shame, because we have been considering other clubs in the area, but SYC is firmly crossed off of our list due to their U9 coach. There's no way I would want my 8 year old subjected to that kind of aggression and anger -- heaven help those boys when they are actually in a close game or on the losing side. Really not a good look, SYC. These kids are 8 years old.”

This description of SYC is spot on. The U9/2012 SYC girls are the same way.

And some of the assistant (parent) coaches don’t behave any better.

1. your style of play is predicated on defense (again, that's okay). just don't talk about how you're players are masters of the ball or anything.
2. most importantly, YOU aren't pressing the other team. your PLAYERS are. and there's nothing wrong with that but instructing tactics is well sorta

looking forward to more 'SYC produces footballers' posts when we know it's all about pressing and counterattacking

If you're up by a few goals, why would you be "pressing"? Why not hang back and let your midfield and defense get a few touches on the ball?
