If you want a Chromebook and didn't get one during the first round contact the school. They will probably do more rounds of distributions for the folks that either missed the memo or had their head up their ass about how much money they had and we're Tok proud to get something for free.
The schools gave away the oldest models that were slotted to be surplused. If you don't send it back you might get fined but it can be written off as a loss. |

I wish these DCUMers would go ahead and invent that time machine already. It would be so helpful. Meanwhile, it should go without saying that the the PP with the 3 kids can't just send one (or more) of them back after encountering expenses. |
If you cannot afford a $200 chromebook and are not low income, then something is seriously wrong with your spending or life choices. I am tired of people living in expensive houses and then screaming poverty when its their choices, not poverty. I feel bad for those kids if their parents don't put them first and put their lifestyle choices first. In the meanwhile, families who need chrome books cannot get them as others took them who can afford to buy one or use their iPads. |
Many people did not NEED these devices at home before this. Their young children only had pencil and paper homework. Most people can’t afford to have three $200 Chromebooks sitting around at home just in case a viral pandemic shuts school down for six weeks. |
Google assignments work badly on the tablets. I’ve had students complain that they clicked one circle, but then it computer recorded the circle above or below making their answers wrong. |
| My kids have desktop computers in their bedrooms but they still wanted us to pick up the chromebooks from their HS because they were portable and they can use them anywhere in the house and not just their bedroom. When I went to their school to pick them up I asked them if their were in limited supply and they told me no there was enough for each student to take one. |
Who screamed poverty here? We took something that is being loaned by the school system. We will be returning them after this is over. I am not spending $900 because people like you are tired of me living in a modest home. You are not paying my bills and you do not know my family situation. I think it is just one person harping about this, while there are several of us saying its okay to borrow one if you need it, regardless of your income. Last I have to say on this. You please continue your tirade. |
And, what do you define as modest? We have a 1000 square foot house/under $400K and funny thing, we can afford to buy what are kids need. How on earth do you kids do their homework without computers when so much is online? |
Your school may have enough but other schools don't. That's pretty selfish to take one when your kids have computers. |
Have you ever tried using an iPads with Google classroom?? Didn't think so. The text doesn't synch up on an iPad as it does when you're using Chrome and you literally type OVER the text. |
Yes, I have and we do. We have both an iPad and laptop and use both. Sell your iPad and buy a chromebook. |
Good for you. Although... you really shouldn't act so preachy when you don't know the difference between are and our, sanctimommy.
|
Agree with this. Seriously? Your kids have desktop computers and you took Chromebooks home? Our ES ran out of Chromebooks. Definitely selfish of the PP. |
DP. Feel free to discuss your position with THE SCHOOL THAT SAID IT WAS OK FOR THE PP TO GET CHROMEBOOKS FOR THEIR KIDS. |
