She probably knew he was dead before the police knew. She won’t be returning to the U.K. Her and her husband’s careers are over. She will have terrible nightmares the rest of her life and her children will be impacted. Of course this is nothing compared to the man who lost his life and his family. The only reason why Boris Johnson is even talking about this is to deflect the whole mistress and misappropriation of funds drama surrounding him. He does not care about this boy or his family at all.

Why are we spying on the UK?

We are not. US and UK spies work together at a military base on UK soil. They are intercepting European and Russian communications.

This is correct.

It’s the right thing to do. She should face the consequences of what she did. I don’t doubt it was a complete accident, but we all have to take responsibility when we do harm.

The Brits would have treated her with kid gloves, had she remained in the country. The family pays a fine, she spends at most a week or two in a minimum security facility, the US/UK governments pay off the family of the kid who was killed.

The media would have been quiet on the story, it would have blown over with any fuss Stateside.

I'm thinking that there must be more to the story. Inebriated on prescription meds? Hung over? If it was a legit accident, this would have been handled very quietly.

She should have stayed. But, people do stupid things when they are scared. There may or may not be more to the story.

Wherever they are, I hope they see no end of shaming and hounding from the neighbors.

I think you all overestimate the extent to which most people care about anything but themselves.

She couldn’t have left without the help/permission of the US Govt. so for whatever reason they agreed with the decision.

There is video from the security gate.

How soon did she leave? All she had to do was to get on a plane. She had her passport.

She couldn’t have left without the help/permission of the US Govt. so for whatever reason they agreed with the decision.

You haven’t seen her or spoken to her. You have no idea how upset she is and you have no idea what instructions she’s being given. She is probably just doing what she is told. Even if she had stayed, she wouldn’t have attended the funeral (????.)

Her returning to the UK will not bring the boy back nor will it bring the family closure. The family is delusional with grief that somehow putting this woman in jail will make them feel better. It won’t.

Yes she is a white woman who killed a man. You really can not hold a woman accountable for her actions. It’s white women privilege. As a woman she is just a lot more important vs some random male. Her family’s grief is just so much greater and more important vs the family of the person killed by her. I see your point.
Anonymous
Yeah, I see what you mean. If it was a white male trailing spouse the outrage would would be far greater. Then imagine if the victim happened to be a teenage girl.

Nowhere did I say her family's grief was greater or more important. And I fail to see how her gender has anything to do with it. I feel highly confident as US male with diplomatic immunity would have left as well.

She was within her rights to leave. The US has already said they are not waiving immunity. If the UK wants to change the rules, they can do that going forward, but about this woman the UK is just beating a dead horse. Its done. She ain't coming back.

^^^and even if she were remotely considering returning to the UK, she certainly isn't any more now that she has seen the torches and pitchforks out. She would be completely insane to come back now.

State Department advised them to leave.

"The police went back again Sept. 15 to place Sacoolas under formal questioning in a wrongful death inquiry but she, her husband, Jonathan, and their three children had left the country, claiming diplomatic immunity. The U.S. Embassy in London said they did so on the advice of the U.S. State Department."

She absolutely was advised to leave. I bed the UK govt told them they were PNG and to leave the country. Who cares if some police man came looking for them. It would be like a police man from leesburg knocking on a door when the fed govt told that person they were no longer welcome in the country. Her husband was a spy working with the UK. The UK knew they were leaving. She can’t stay if both countries are telling her to GTFO. It doesn’t matter what the police officer says.

Right, so why is everyone acting like this was her choice? She is not "evading justice." She is doing what the government told her to do.
