I agree 100%.

+1. Diplomatic immunity is there to protect our diplomats from political persecution. Not let their wives get away with murder.

There are questions about whether the family even properly had diplomatic immunity. This could explain why they were spirited out of the country - it would setup a public legal battle as to whether a spy who is not on the official diplomatic registry can claim diplomatic immunity:

According to the 1961 Vienna Convention, people registered as diplomats and their families are legally entitled to claim immunity from being tried in their host country as long as they are not nationals there as well.

However, her husband — named by UK and US media as Jonathan Sacoolas — does not appear in the UK's official list of diplomats, inviting speculation that the family didn't have the right to claim diplomatic immunity to leave.

Mark Stephens, a British lawyer specializing in constitutional and diplomatic law, said this means the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Northamptonshire Police may not have had the right to let the family leave.

Referring to the Vienna Convention, Stephens told Sky News: "That treaty though doesn't bind Northamptonshire Police and it doesn't bind the family of this poor boy who was deceased, and as a consequence they can apply for her extradition to come back to face manslaughter charges."

Sources close to the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and the prime minister's office however, told Insider that Jonathan Sacoolas had the right to diplomatic immunity.

The prime ministerial source also told Insider that the Anne and Jonathan Sacoolas don't appear on the diplomatic list because it only contains the names of people based in missions in London.

It does not encompass all the names of people in the UK with the right to diplomatic immunity, the source added.

She probably knew he was dead before the police knew. She won’t be returning to the U.K. Her and her husband’s careers are over. She will have terrible nightmares the rest of her life and her children will be impacted. Of course this is nothing compared to the man who lost his life and his family. The only reason why Boris Johnson is even talking about this is to deflect the whole mistress and misappropriation of funds drama surrounding him. He does not care about this boy or his family at all.

Why are we spying on the UK?

The Daily Mail article says this family lived in Australia for three years, so I doubt she is that inexperienced driving on the left-hand side of the road.

We are not. US and UK spies work together at a military base on UK soil. They are intercepting European and Russian communications.

The US will never extradite her. People are wasting their breath.

Eh, her name and pics are plastered all over the internet. Persona non grata, both in Vienna and embassy compounds.

Lol and British leavers expect a fair trade deal from this administration? I truly pity the UK, they're in a worse position than we are.

Does anyone actually know this family since they are from Vienna?

Apparently they had a house in Reston for quite some years. Recently sold it and upgraded to the Vienna home "for the schools" in the last year or so. They only recently moved to the UK.

I think they only lived briefly in Vienna between assignments. Previously their home was in Reston.

Wherever they are, I hope they see no end of shaming and hounding from the neighbors.

Remember the Georgian diplomat who drove drunk and killed a teenager at DuPont Circle back in the 90s? Georgia waived immunity in that case.

It’s the right thing to do. She should face the consequences of what she did. I don’t doubt it was a complete accident, but we all have to take responsibility when we do harm.

The Brits would have treated her with kid gloves, had she remained in the country. The family pays a fine, she spends at most a week or two in a minimum security facility, the US/UK governments pay off the family of the kid who was killed.

The media would have been quiet on the story, it would have blown over with any fuss Stateside.

I'm thinking that there must be more to the story. Inebriated on prescription meds? Hung over? If it was a legit accident, this would have been handled very quietly.
