Remember the Georgian diplomat who drove drunk and killed a teenager at DuPont Circle back in the 90s? Georgia waived immunity in that case. It’s the right thing to do. She should face the consequences of what she did. I don’t doubt it was a complete accident, but we all have to take responsibility when we do harm.
The Brits would have treated her with kid gloves, had she remained in the country. The family pays a fine, she spends at most a week or two in a minimum security facility, the US/UK governments pay off the family of the kid who was killed. The media would have been quiet on the story, it would have blown over with any fuss Stateside. I'm thinking that there must be more to the story. Inebriated on prescription meds? Hung over? If it was a legit accident, this would have been handled very quietly.
She should have stayed. But, people do stupid things when they are scared. There may or may not be more to the story.
