so are you the same women who cheer 40-50 y.o divorced moms to go out and "date" younger guys (and you often list the numerous, often times hilarious, reasons for engaging in that behavior)? why is is different now?

I could be wrong, but aren’t 35 and 24 both considered millennials?

When folks heard she was still in med school, the word creep was sarcastically used. If he wants children, it would seem pragmatic for him to court women in that age range when you factor in 1-2 years for engagement and wedding.

The criticizing women are acting like jerks.

I met my DH when he was 36 and I was 27. I don't see what the big deal is. We've been together for 10 years and have a child, no one thinks we're some odd couple.

In fact several of the moms I met in my neighborhood mom group in Brooklyn had husbands that were a good bit older. Not that uncommon.

totally agree. I think ^^PP was making the point that many women are perfectly ok with a 'mature' woman (i.e., gen x/ gen y) dating a millennial, so if that is the case, what is so wrong about two millennials dating each other?

Why is everyone assuming that this girl is a stunner? There are many just OK or just pleasant looking 20 somethings. They are not all Helen of Troy.

If this chick is that special, why is she dating a 35 year old man and not one of her future doctor classmates (unless she’s a gold digger, in which case the coworkers are right to criticize away)?

Dating women his own age would be emotional baggage, divorcées, single mothers and spinsters--and IVF babies. Why would a high-status male put up with that?

So sick of our society devaluing women over the age of 30 who have plenty of favorable attributes over 20 somethings (including being better in bed ).

It's not as bad as Trump...isn't he like 30yrs older than Melania? ickkkkk

Men married to younger women live longer.

The President is 22 years older than his wife. Three past presidents had even bigger age differences with their wives, and JFK was 12 years older than his wife. Warren Harding and Richard Nixon were younger than their wives.

The president of France has a wife who is 26 years older than he is. Iccckkk, right?

Padma Lakshmi (who is very left-wing) routinely dates and has married men 25 or 30 or more years older than she is--is she gross?

Hugh Hefner (a rich liberal) had a wife who was 66 years younger than he was. Alec Baldwin (rich liberal) married a woman 36 years younger than he is. Is he a creep? Harrison Ford's wife (Calista Flockhart) is 22 years younger. Steve Martin's wife is 36 years younger, Michael Douglas's wife is 26 years younger, John Cleese's wife is 31 years younger, and Humphrey Bogart's wife was 25 years younger. All bad guys, right?

I’m guessing that there are a lot of gold digger and social climbers who married older men weighing in on this thread.

stop with your objective analysis, logic and facts. that has no place here. this is a forum uniquely catering to the unassailable views of angry women who simply bash men for simple reason that the men have a penis.

In the age of female empowerment, can you please tell me when my daughters will be old enough to make their own dating decisions? I didn't know they were such mental simpletons that they are prey to white collar successful men well into their 20s.

The woman speaking to the power imbalance stated it well.

NP. You didn't answer the pp's question. At what age may a grown woman make her own decision on who she will date?

I understand the point being made. Think about brain development. For all the amazing things we can learn early on we’re still reaching emotional maturity in our mid 20s. Some will be ready before then and some won’t. There’s no hard and fast rule on age but realistically not everyone has it together at 24. I’m not saying anything other than early 20s are closer to childhood than adulthood, at least in comparison to a 35-year-old. It doesn’t have to be your opinion, and certainly it’s something for us each to figure out on our own.

Many of my New England SLAC college classmates married shortly after graduation. A mid-20s medical student is more than old enough to make her own dating decisions. Stop with your retrograde characterization of grown women as easily swindled dainty simpletons. It's disgusting.

MIL, I am speaking to you.

Jealous/insecure guys are worse than jealous/insecure women.

Great. They can think with their dicks their whole lives. I’m sure it will get them far.

NP. A grown woman may make her choices on who to date once she turns 18.

HOWEVER, we are free to assess those choices just as we do everyone's social conduct.

If a 19 year old woman chooses to date a thrice-divorced 65 year old, we will assume that he's a creep and she has emotional/mental health issues.
