Gaithersburg parent here -- our last Principal Dr. Handy swept nothing under the rug, but I believe she could have done better at staying a head of the game in the first place. So you heard about us on a more frequent basis. Plus we have or had a media leak (I'll go no further). Once our kids saw news and social media accounts like Gburg fights on Instagram, then they added old videos to the feed. But I agree that this is happening at other schools. Now, we have a new Principal. He is more involved on a day to day level, and is working very hard to keep incidents from happening in the first place (as much as the administrators and security can). Meaning -- he or another VP attends all after school events, is proactive about communication, and he is trying really hard to stay ahead of the curve. I'm sure it's exhausting, but it seems to be working. He also cut down on some of the student "traditions" during games or homecoming week, that usually just led to fights once some hot head was tagged with a marker, or whatever the case may be. |
A kid at Churchill ran over a student with his car when a drug deal went bad. On another occasion, a student stabbed other students with an art scapple. Sometimes the media reports. Sometimes not. I am sure that is the case across all MCPS schools. |
WTF? Seriously? |
This assault is BEYOND belief. In school. During school hours. MCPS obviously doesn't care about the basic safety of its students. How much longer will MCPS parents and citizens tolerate this?? |
| Expel the two kids for fighting. Set the precedent so that others realize the repercussions of their choices. Watch fights stop. All kids now get for fighting is positive attention from social media and the general media. They are reviled. Nip it in the bud the first time it happens. No consequences equals a guarantee it will keep happening and will escalate in severity. |
| It was an assault. |
| Based upon that video, I don't know how Magruder's wrestling team hasn't had a better season. |
? |
Yes. This happened. Both the drug dealer and the buyer were students at Churchill. The student who was injured had his friends later retaliate and jumped the student that hurt him. The police were involved with the case. Students remained in school while both students went through legal due process. |
They get social media famous. AKA a lot of attention. Other kids want to emulate. |
Kids want to emulate people who are reviled? |

The young man that someone said overestimated his maneuver and hurt his head is my nephew. Early in the day he was heckled by the other boy and there was a verbal confrontation that a passerby teacher intervened. That teacher should of spread the word to personnel which could’ve prevented the physical fight.
Video shows my nephew was cornered and had no choice to walk away, so he stood his ground and defended himself accordingly and unfortunately has serious head injuries. As to the person who said the mom should’ve of called the ambulance, get some sense...she drove faster to the hospital than what it would’ve taken for emergency to arrive. If your going to point fingers, direct them to the RN that was on staff and and all the other staff that did nothing! |
when was this? |
How is he doing? Your family is right to be very upset. They should’ve called the ambulance as soon as they saw he was vomiting. |
And the ambulance could have started administering care on arrival rather than waiting for him to get to the hospital and be seen |
