How has MoCo declined since you’ve lived here?

I don't think it will be that bad. NoVa still has plenty of jobs related to government as well.

I used to work in SV and lived through the tech bubble meltdown. Now, that was ugly. I was really fortunate, though.

Well my understanding is SV and tech industries are preparing for another tech bubble meltdown because all the companies are highly over valued.

ok, but as I stated, NoVa still has plenty of government related jobs, unlike SV, so the meltdown shouldn't affect NoVa as badly. That was point, not that there isn't going to be a meltdown.

in 1975 you could buy a gun pretty much anywhere

This thread was clearly posted by some ahole from VA who thinks that by pushing this type of rhetoric their home value will increase exponentially (which it wont) or a realtor.

It could have been posted by a concerned Moco resident

That describes me and I'm one of the posters.. Not op though

Seriously? As someone who just bought a house in Moco, I would not be worried. I put in over 10 offers in on home that were unsuccessful because people were putting in offers over asking, no contingencies, pre-inspection, and full cash (for homes that were 3/4 million +). Buying into this type of hype is ridiculous.

Yeah that's why it's so distressing that all 4 of the MoCo council at large members come from a small downcounty area (Takoma Park, Kensington, Silver Spring). Same with the new CoExec Elrich.

They think the solution to Germantown's growth and traffic problems is BRT (buses). Do they realize the distances involved and how impractical that is?

Go to one of the open house forums Mar Elrich is hosting. He may come to realize it wouldn’t work in that area. He does listen, unlike 99% of politicians.

But he’s having TWO of those listening sessions in Silver Spring and Takoma Park - where he LIVES and in places that have been gettings tons of attention the last 8 years. That’s more like a Donald Trump victory tour, post election campaign session than a ‘listening session’.
Nothing for Poolesville, Gaithersburg or Bethesda. We still don’t exist. It stings and I don’t believe that he’s going to be any different than the usu

I'm by no means a fan of Elrich (I voted Ficker), but didn't he have a "listening session" in Germantown last week? I think he was doing 8 of them, and 2 were upcounty.

Yes he had a Germantown one which was a packed house. I didn't attend but a neighbor did and he said that Elrich sounded very reasonable and that he could tell that he really cares and wants the best for the county- even economically. He didn't come off as this socialist that everyone here keeps talking about. This is coming from someone who was not a fan of him at first and someone who tends to vote Republican. By the way, David Blair is on Elrich's transition team.

Great to hear this. I was a pro-Elrich poster prior to the election; it was so frustrating to have him painted as a stereotype. Fact is, he likes to talk — -and listen. But he is just not a typical politician, so he is easy to quote out of context. Lost my respect for The Post editorial page over this.

Muncaster is a dangerous road after dark, drunk or not.

Comparing schools in this area is like comparing apples to oranges. If you compare Kennedy, Einstein, and Paint Branch in MCPS to Langley, McLean, and Madison in FCPS, of course it's not a fair comparison. Similarly, if you compare West Potomac, Edison, Herndon, or Falls Church in FCPS to Wootton, Churchill, and Whitman in MCPS, also not a fair comparison. There are middle of the road schools in both counties like Marshall, Lake Braddock, and Fairfax in FCPS and Quince Orchard, Sherwood, and BCC in MCPS.

Things are not much better across the river in VA:
Crime: https://www.insidenova.com/news/crime_police/fbi-violent-crime-climbs-in-northern-virginia-nationwide/article_d07c3a36-a216-11e7-af99-93a69bb3285f.html
FARMS in schools: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/demographics/sites/demographics/files/assets/publications/economic_need_in_fairfax_county2014.pdf

If it's a problem in metro MD, it's also a problem in metro VA.

The discussion isn't about Fairfax County, VA.

We're talking about Montgomery County, MD

LOL. Try to be funny .
Yes, we are talking about MoCo. The best schools are in MoCo. There is only one great school in Fairfax /NoVa.
When Fairfax schools can win the it's academic competition, come talk to me.

West Virginians should check their privilege

when they don't have to worry about being stopped by cops for their skin color, or people scream at them to "go back to your own country", then yes, they have some "privilege" that some minorities don't have.

You really need to learn what "white privilege means. HINT: it's not about what kind of house you live in or your income level.

I’m the pp you replied to. I’m lucky, I look white but I’m actually 1/4 Japanese. My dad grew up in WV too. Being half Japanese, he looks Asian. His “friends” called him “chink” growing up as a nickname. Looking back, I remember as a child, people calling him that as though it were his name. Obviously as an adult I realize it was racism (and not hidden at all) but I didn’t get it as a kid.
