Metropolitan DC Local Politics
| I was born here in the mid 70s. It’s poorer now, schools are still good but in decline, panhandlers everywhere in intersections, even in Germantown. Ms-13. Not sure violent crime is much higher though. There have always been a few murders and rapes. |

I have not noticed a decline. It's still an extremely desirable place to live. If anything, it's wealthier than when I grew up here. I grew up MC and moving back to the same neighborhood, it seems UMC.
I moved to MoCo after DC when I was 8, and lived here through high school. I just moved back to MoCo from DC again. I wished I could have taken my childhood house. I've been priced out of MoCo until recently, and we make 5x more than my parents even adjusted for inflation. |

| We left and never looked back. It just became too much. The schools declined sharply and the increase in crime and gang activity was scary. I haven't been back in several years. I have no desire to ever step foot in Maryland again. I'll stay in my safe neighborhood in Fairfax County. |

How do you propose people help, pay more taxes and subsidies? |
| Even in Germantown like that was ever a sought after area? |

I've been here 10 years, live in the Glenmont / Layhill area and it's improved significantly from the time we moved here.
Wheaton is redeveloping, the panhandlers at the major intersections are mostly gone, and the local Plaza Del Mercardo shopping center has finally been refurbished and is getting some better stores and services. I actually go to Wheaton Mall to shop and there are lots of other families etc... there shopping too! (unlike when it used to be mostly guys hanging out.) The libraries at Aspen Hill and Olney have been refreshed or rebuilt, and the Wheaton Library is being rebuilt-all long overdue judging from when we moved here. |

I've lived in Bethesda off and on since the 60s. In many ways its much better - more cosmopolitan, better public transit including metro, better shopping areas and restaurants, more of an independent identity rather than being just next to DC (there is MD pride), tons of sports and activities options for kids, more parks and public facilities.
On the negative side - much more congested, less friendly, more expensive. |
| Moco is the Cali of the region. The richest (most billonaires, best privates and country clubs) but the middle class is being pushed out to Nova and Frederick by the poor. |
|
Better restaurants, better cycle lanes. I’ve never worried about crime here.
The architecture sucks, but you can’t have everything. |
| Moved to MoCo from DC 10 years ago and have never regretted it! |
|
Grew up here. Lived here for 51 years.
The explosion of homeless and panhandlers on almost every corner is the biggest thing I notice. Also the influx of undocumented people, and gang culture that accompanies it. Taxes only go up. Never flat, never down, only up. |
