7 am.

So on a two hour delay, it still opens at the normal time, 7 am?

yes- so SACC had been open for well over an hour before they decided to cancel. way to go FCPS!

You know, the people who decide whether to open/delay/close did the best they could with a changing forecast.

So what happens when your prince or princess gets sick at school on a normal day? You need to turn around and go pick them up, right? You don’t have a back up plan with someone to get them for you?

You would be the first to complain if they cancelled school and this turned into only a rain event.

My kids have never been sick at school. But if one of them was- it most likely would not be crappy road conditions and I could get there in 25 minutes. If my kids wake up sick- I don’t send them to school.

If school had been closed earlier in the morning- I would have taken leave but I trusted that a 6am decision was made and the 2 hour delay was going to be the final decision.

Late closures aren't ideal, but they do happen.

Weather-related school closure and delay savant here;

I predict a two hour delay tomorrow for FCPS 11/16.

Interesting. We don’t live in Fairfax, but my child’s school follows their delay / closing decisions. Are things still bad out there or are they expecting more weather in the morning?

SACC parents—you could always give up your spots if you hate SACC openings/closings being determined by FCPS. They stay opened until you could pick up your children today, correct?

Ours stayed open until they and the janitors were told they needed to clear out of the building.

Yes.

For an ES that starts at 9:15, then on a day with a 2 hour delay, the SACC kids are there for 5 hours before school starts?

Yes, that's right. I love that SACC opens on time on delay days because if it's only a delay it means I'm almost definitely expected to be at work on time.

Well, closer to to 4 hours (4 hours, 15 mins to be exact) than 5 hours.

It must be nice to be you, and never need to deal with a job and childcare. The rest of us, doing the best we can in the real world, would like to suggest you sit down and STFU.

And in FCPS, the changed a delay to a closure what— 3 times last year? 4? Once, after the bus had already picked up my MS kid.

Fact is, MS kids get on buses at 6:15-6:20 in some places for things like AAP Centers. So a 2 hour delay is 8:15. A 7:56 call is too late.

Wow. I am surprised SACC opens on time when schools are delayed. The roads are unsafe for the SACC staff as well. Doesn't make sense.

How do you know this? Were they standing outside with the kids when you showed up?

I think delays are mainly for school buses and kids walking to school. Most employees in the real world have to get to work on time despite the weather.

SACC is a private service that caters to the parents that pay for it. They open on time for delays because working parents need it and it’s good for their business model.
