Montgomery County, please give Elrich a chance. Don't let Floreen fool you.

I don't actually like Floreen either, but she's the best of 3 crappy choices.

Pp, what is this supposed to mean?

Jamie Raskin, Ben Cardin, Chris Van Hollen, Kathleen Matthews, plus primary opponents including most notably David Blair have endorsed him. The only people endorsing Nancy Floreen are sky-is-falling McCarthyists and developers whining that they won't get the green light from Elrich to pave over literally everything.

Nancy is not an INDEPENDENT. She is squarely the affiliation of D for Developers. Exactly what has she done to EVER indicate that she cares about ordinary working people. Even if you don't like Elrich and think you have a valid reason, Nancy has done nothing but be a spoiler and egotistical opportunist to earn your vote. She should drop out, go away, and stay away.

Exactly.

This.

To Hell with both of them. At least with Ficker, I KNOW my taxes aren't going up as much, and we won't be paying for lawyers for people here illegally to fight their deportation for being here illegally.

Ficker it is.

Wow.

And no, "Marc Elrich is an anti-business Communist" or "We just need someone not from the Council" does not a substantial argument make.

Let's start with Elrich's flawed thinking that economic development is not a zero sum game. This lead to his infamous comments about creating jobs in Frederick as a solution for people working in MoCo or other jurisdictions, and living in Frederick due to housing costs. This was a foolish comment to make as it implies that he wants less people living and working in the County and going to other areas. If a company decides to set up shop in Frederick, that means that they chosen to bypass MoCo, and leads to an overall economic loss for MoCo, since you will have people living and working in Frederick. Moreover, the reality is that in the DC region, economic activity IS a zero sum game. The is evidenced by employers moving ship from MoCo to NoVA and the sheer volume of new jobs that exist in NoVA. Even DC has experience a higher number of job growth as employers are willing to pay a premium to have a DC address.

We can't rest on our laurels and think that people or employers will come to our county simply because it's Montgomery County. Other jurisdictions have surpassed us in quality of life, and all of those jurisdictions are welcoming to new jobs and residents. Just look at the development that is occurring in Fairfax and Arlington vs MoCo. In order to maintain our current level of services and remain competitive with other counties, we need to embrace economic growth, which includes new development.

I actually dislike Floreen and loathe Ficker. However, neither of them have ever promotion the idea of job creation or development in other counties as Elrich has done. I could go on, but that is a huge reason why I'll never vote for Elrich.

The only thing created in MoCo is housing. Nonstop high rise developments going in in Bethesda without infrastructure to support the new residents. No new roads, no new schools, no community center or ball fields . This short sighted county council just sees dollar signs in these new residents but it’s not sustainable because of a lack of quality of life. Enrich was and is of that council . No thanks!

So, I voted Blair in the primary because I agree with you that new blood would be a good thing - HOWEVER - I intend to vote for Elrich in the general. Yes, he was of the council that was responsible for uncontrolled development without infrastructure - HE WAS THE LONE DISSENTING VOTE on these very Council decisions! There's a reason why he was never elected Council president, because he didn't jive well with the others who were for this kind of irresponsible development.
I am also encouraged to hear what he has said about Amazon in agreeing to keep Ike's proposal plus viewing it as a mutually beneficial thing in which revenue could help pay for infrastructure. This is the kind of thinking I like to hear.

So you're against people entering the country illegally, but you're fine with Ficker having been on trial for committing assault and having been reprimanded and disbarred for ethics violations as a lawyer? Um...okay.

Why isn’t there a decent republic candidate? Why is there just crazy Robin Ficker?
Why have any republicans and young repub groups and no decent candidates? Why??

Actually, there’s a good Republican candidate for Council: Robert Dyer. He’s tracked County issues on his blog for years. The developers hate him, so you’ll see a lot of vitriol aimed at him, but like Elrich, he actually values the input of residents. I’m voting Dyer & Elrich, wish we could defeat nanby pants Hans.

She also always listens to the worst techno music with the windows down.

Oh, to be a 20-something again, back when I knew everything.

99% she lives in Takoma Park or Silver Spring, lives with roommates and spends money brunching with her #woke friends while voting for candidates who promise free stuff. More than once uttered the words "Bernie would have won" and gets most of her news from The Young Turks.

Classic.

I think you just described a third of Marc Elrich’s constituency.
Another third being wealthy NIMBYs (her parents?)
The other third being retired Takoma Park hippies stuck in the 60s (her grandparents?)

PP here.
Drove behind Elrich-Techno-Prius girl again. At least it's Friday.

He’s white. He’s allowed to commit crimes. Laws are only meant to keep minorities in their place.

+1, absolutely right.

Ficker will be a human wrecking ball to the process that got MoCo where it is right now: with big businesses fleeing, an absurd minimum wage law due to take effect which will hurt smaller businesses the most, sky high property taxes and assessments, a county gov that wastes money on a myriad of frivolous things like "traffic circles" on the footpaths in county parks, and being absolutely overrun with undocumented/illegal immigrants, with the attendant crime and gang activity that comes with that.

Ficker will wreck that.

He might not get much fixed, but at least he'll stop the inertia.

I’m guessing you voted for Trump

Yep.

Many of my neighbors did, too.

Ugh Moco is going to Hell. If Marc Elrich was anything like OP's description, I would vote for him, but we are talking about the guy who tried to get Venezuela to pay for social services. Ficker is too sketchy and Floreen seems opportunistic.
Anonymous
Ficker. I like the wrecking ball analogy. That's what we need.
Anonymous
I honestly don't know who to vote for.

I'm unaffiliated and didn't get to vote for the primary. Had I switched my registration on time (urgh) I would have voted Blair... (ok, maybe Rose, but in retrospect Blair). I dislike Ficker and Floreen equally but for different reasons. But if my priority is that we don't have an obese, deranged socialist as our County Executive, which do I vote for? I really don't know.
