Washington Post endorses David Blair for Montgomery County Exec

I don’t think spending the most money is anything to base your vote on. But I do think Blair is is the best of a crop of mediocre swamp creatures because he isn’t tainted by a crap record.

He has no record because he’s never been in politics. He doesn’t even vote half the time. He’s just looking for something new to do. The county is his new pet project.

+1 -- I agree completely that Blair is unqualified. His track record of civic involvement is very limited -- he was on Leggett's Economic Advisory Committee, which means he attended a bunch of meetings. And, like many CEOs, Blair's used to giving orders and having them implemented by staff. That's not how it works in government -- the country executive needs to be able to work with a co-equal legislative branch. To be fair, though, his website claims that he voted in 10 of 12 elections. Yea him!

A lack of involvement in Montgomery County politics is a plus for me.

We have the dumbest policies and our county is in a death spiral of replacing high income taxpayers for people that take more than they make.

It's a plus to be ignorant and arrogant? Let me guess -- you voted for Trump?

Please do not be swayed just because someone has deep pockets. A rich person without political experience should not be elected for an office like this. And if he does not win the primary, he should be throwing a pile of his money to help Frick or whomever win.

Don’t be an idiot - a vote for Frick is a vote for Elrich

This is the current state of Moco politics - you can’t make this stuff up:

Again, can you point us to some reliable polls?

Same. And if that’s still the case I’m voting for who I like (Rose).

Rose will bring us more overbuilding.

I think they all will except Elrich, but understand there are concerns about him. Not a lot of great choices this tear.

There are no big polls for this race, as is typical for such local races. However, based on various recent articles on this subject that have been posted in Washington Post, Bethesda Beat, WAMU and other local sources that I've seen, the thing I keep hearing is that people think this is a two-man race between Elrich and Blair. There's an article in Bethesda Beat posted today that said they asked about a dozen people at early polling sites who they voted for and most said Elrich or Blair, with a few for Krasnow. Yes, a dozen responses is not a real poll, but it does back up what I've seen in other reports. And its just common sense really. Most people are just not going to dig too deep into local election matters. The fact that the WaPo endorsed Blair will be enough for lots of folks to vote for him. And Elrich captures the union and ultra-left vote. So its between those two. Vote for who you want but the fact is, the only person who has a real chance of beating Elrich is Blair and I think most people know that. He wasn't my first choice either but I think he's fine and I'm a pragmatist. But there are too many damn democrats who childishly insist on voting for the person they like best even when that person has zero chance of winning. That's why we end up with W for 2 terms and f*cking DJT (probably for 2 terms as well because whichever Dem gets nominated in 2020 will not be "pure" enough).

Blair doesn’t know anything about county government. I have zero confidence that he will be able to appoint high quality top leadership.

So basically we have some people-- most likely Blair supporters-- claiming it's a two man race and any other vote is wasted when there is absolutley nothing to support that except a vague reference to something read in a Bethesda Beat article?

I still think the people voting in a primary election in an off year election are mostly going to take some time to think about who to vote for and most of them aren't going to want to vote for an ex-Republican who can't be bothered to vote-- just because he has no record in politics doesn't mean he doesn't have a questionable record.

I think it's reasonable to think Elrich is the front runner, but apart from the WaPo endorsement I don't see any reason to assume Blair is next in support. Spending a ton on ads certainly didn't help Trone a Democratic primary in MoCo.

BTW Seventh State had an interesting rundown on the attacks on Blair-- basically they said the disabilty insurance thing is a stretch to blame him.

Del Frick didn’t fill out the questionnaire?? Doesn’t sound like he’s a serious candidate

Are you kidding? Look at the freaks who have been in there the last 8 years running the county into the ground.
Change is good.
