Unrealistic TV Couples

They were both anxious, self absorbed and unfunny and I have no idea who could have watched/enjoyed this show. Unrealistic because there COULD NOT be a couple this annoying and also they were always fussing w each other-no love was apparent. Why r u together?

But then I review the relationship board and realize there must be many couples like this and that is who was watching.... people who think it is normal to go through life w a sourpuss frown always nagging each other.

Also that parent couple from the 70s show w the hawt mum and furry headed short stout dad is so real because gene Simmons and Shannon tweed.

+100! I could never watch Mad About You. I just thought they were annoying. I also thought the writing was over-done. (Same two complaints I have about the Gilmore Girls, by the way.)

That 70's Show got SOOOO much right! The two parent couples were two classic couple types of the 70's/80's, at least as I remember from my childhood. I had a childhood friend whose mom was really attractive (in a va va va voom kind of way) and sort of ditzy but sweet who was married to this short, balding guy who was kind of goofy but also sweet. And I also had friends who had Eric's parents -- the grumpus father and the sweet archtypical mom (the one who bakes and is kind of a mom figure even to her kids' friends). That show got so many things right. Even the teenager types: the kind of shallow girl who is super into her looks, the not-so-bright but goodlooking guy who goes for that kind of girl, the geeky guy with the very popular older sister, the girl next door, the cynic/punk-rock "I don't care" guy who seems really cool but is that way because he has some dysfunctional family dynamics. The only complaint I have is that they made FES too ridiculous.

Mariska Hargitay and Peter Hermann are a stunningly beautiful couple both inside and out.

They are both advocates who pour their hearts and souls into their work with The Joyful Heart Foundation, No More, 1in6, It'sOnUs, and several other organizations/movements. Beautiful.

As far as Sex and the City, Big DID date and marry a younger woman (who was beautiful and a socialite), and it didn't work out. I think that is part of his character development. People are also discounting that in the show, Carrie had fame of her own and was a fashion icon. So it wasn't like Big married some unknown frumpy woman. He still stayed within his circle, so to say.

I actually think the more unrealistic story line was Samantha and Smith Jared. Although I think their early relationship was realistic, I don't think IRL they would have stayed together. I saw them kind of like Demi Moore/Ashton Kutcher. A more realistic story line would have been that Smith Jared moved on when he got more famous (even though that kind of depresses me admitting that).

I actually thought that Sex and the City did address a lot of the unpleasantries of dating and pairing up and the unfortunate realities of it all. Where that show went wrong was in the ending. It was like they tried to hard to make all of the stories end nicely. It would have been far more realistic if at least one of the four women actually remained single (and that it was *okay* to be single, not tragic but normal).

As for unrealistic TV pairings, I actually think that it's not so much mismatched looks (unattractive with attractive) that makes sitcoms and TV romance so unrealistic, but rather, it's the way things all work out and all ends get tied up.

But that's in part because it's what people want to see. Writers don't write shows to be realistic. They write them to get viewers to watch the show. Most people want to see the two characters get together at the end, et cetera, et cetera.

They didn't stay together, did they? I thought they broke up in one of the movies.

The Ina Garten one wins. She is so fat and disgusting. He seems to adore her though. can't understand why.

Wow you are mean. I think they are a realistic looking couple. Also, Ina's face emanates joy, she always looks so happy. Really, she looks like someone I would like to know in real life.

NP. I thought that PP who posted the picture was referring (tongue in cheek?) to the fact that Jeffrey is so obviously gay. I thought it was funny.

What part of calling her fat and disgusting is funny? I don't even like her and that's not funny or called for.

What the hell.

+1000. He is a total horse's ass and she is very put-together. I watch this show mostly for the supporting cast but in what universe could these two ever have fallen in love much less stayed together as long as they did? It irks the hell out of me.

Jon favreau and anybody, but definitely not Jamie king, Sofia vergara or scarlet Johansson.

Pretty much every movie these days. The one that got to me was the tom hanks Bridge of Spies one. His wife was at least 20 years younger than him and it was distracting.

Also any movie with Kevin Costner, or Woody Allen until about 5 years ago.

Wait, what? Amy Ryan is maybe 12 or 13 years younger than Tom Hanks. That age difference in a Hollywood movie doesn't even register for me (at least when the couple is middle-aged).

Now what was distracting was Melissa Leo playing Batman's mom in The Fighter when they're only like 10 years apart IRL.
